Jo, jag vet att du tog det från Top Gun - "sonny boy" (om vi nu ska lägga oss på den trevliga nivån).

Men som sagt, vad ett citat från en film, har att göra med att ett filmbolag har valt "sida", är i alla fall för mig en gåta. Dock ska inte jag leka strängpolis, utan om du vill fortsätta med dina "nivåhöjande inlägg", så "be my guest sonny"...

Dock förstår jag att vissa utav er är glada/lättade en dag som denna.
Att lägga alla ägg i samma korg, kan visa sig vara väldigt ovist i slutendan. Lite som med aktier, att helt plötsligt så har man förlorat allt.

Sen är frågan varför så många är så pro-BD. Tror inte man ser ngn direkt skillnad i bild/ljudkvalité mellan formaten mer än om man stirrar sig blint på bitrate etc.
Hörbar skillnad, kanske för en audiofil, bildmässigt?, kanske om man kör ut bilden på 100+ tum duk.
Inte direkt vad svenssons gör. Och varför skulle dom betala mer för att vi vill ha mer lagringsutrymme som kanske inte ens behövs för film. Däremot för datorbranchen kan jag se ett behov.

Har själv inte sett att det extra lagringsutrymmet på BD kommer göra att bilden blir bättre än hd-dvds motsvarighet. Är ju många filmer på dvd som inte upptar hela utrymmet. Sen codecs etc förbättras ju hela tiden. Men klart jag kan ha fel. Har varken HD-dvd eller Blu ray. Jag väntar tills senare i höst innan jag bestämmer mig =). Kan mycket väl stödja båda formaten men just nu är det Hd Dvd som har en mer normal prisnivå på spelarna. Och för min 42" plasma-tv så kommer inte Blu ray visa någon markant förbättring i bildkvalité.

Vem går in och berättar detta för läsarna av Blu Ray nyheter och ryktes tråden? Av någon anledning verkar alla de vanliga skribenterna där lysa med sin frånvaro.     

Jag menar, vi kan ju inte riskera att någon blåögd missar detta.

För övrigt tycker jag att det är synd att Henke uttrycker sig så hatiskt om Spielberg och Lucas. Du behöver inte ta detta så personligt, men om du gillar Spielberg(s filmer) så släpper Sony Närkontakt av Tredje Graden EXKLUSIVT på Blu-ray.

The primarly reason for their support is that bandwidth and disc capacity are a nuisance with HD-DVD. That said, I think they were made a very generous offer (as was Uni) that was too good to pass up.

You have to recognize that there is little if any money to be made on either format at this moment. The cost of promoting a new format has to be amortized over later years when it hits the growth curve. If you can get paid to support one format, that is real money you can bank, while the opposing format potentially gains strength and grows into a substantial installed base of players. So fast forward a year or two. Your support for pay deal expires and what do you know... you get to release the same movies all over again on the dominant format with healthy sales numbers.

blu-ray.com är inte direkt opartiska. men det är klart M$ har spelat en del roll i detta. Men att Sony inte skulle göra detsamma för att få filmbolag gå BD exclusive tror jag inte.

DreamWorks Animation, Paramount Choose HD DVD

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Viacom Inc's <VIAb.N> Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc <DWA.N> said on Monday they will release their DVD titles exclusively on HD DVD ahead of what they say could be the biggest holiday season ever for DVDs.

Paramount had sold titles in both the new high-definition formats -- HD DVD and Blu-Ray -- but settled exclusively on HD DVD after deciding that it offered better quality, lower-priced players and lower manufacturing costs, Kelley Avery, president of Paramount Home Entertainment, told Reuters.

"This has been the biggest summer on record for movies, it will be the biggest fourth quarter for popular movies for consumers," Avery said. "At the same time, we have HD DVD players that are truly affordable."

HD DVD and Blu-Ray are waging a battle to dominate the next generation of DVD players that promise better pictures, sound and in some cases more content in the multibillion-dollar home- entertainment arena.

So far, most of the major Hollywood studios are selling Blu-Ray titles, and HD DVD sales have lagged. But some HD DVD supporters hope to broaden their appeal to consumers based on cost. The lowest-priced, stand-alone HD DVD player sells for $299, compared with $499 for the lowest-cost Blu-Ray option.

Paramount's first releases under the exclusive HD DVD program include "Blades of Glory" on August 28, and the summer blockbusters "Transformers" and "Shrek the Third," due for release later this fall.

"SHREK" PREFERS HD DVD

DreamWorks Animation, maker of the blockbuster "Shrek" animated movie franchise, had not committed exclusively to either high-definition format but was swayed to HD DVD by the lower-cost player, DreamWorks Animation Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Katzenberg said.

"They have a high-quality consumer experience that is now being offered at a price point that we believe is going to connect with the consumer," Katzenberg told Reuters.

Katzenberg said timing also played a part, with the holiday season "sure to be the biggest quarter in the history of the home-video market" and consumers facing the 2009 switch to a high-definition broadcast signal.

"This seems to us to be the right product at the right price at the right time," Katzenberg said.

DreamWorks Animation titles are distributed on home video and DVD by Paramount.

The exclusive agreement does not include movies directed by Steven Spielberg for DreamWorks SKG, a Paramount unit. It does include all other movies distributed by Paramount, DreamWorks, Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films.

HD DVD was developed by Toshiba Corp. and backed by Microsoft Corp <MSFT.O> and is supported by Warner Bros., Universal Studios, New Line Cinema, HBO and the Weinstein Co.

Blu-Ray discs use Sony Corp <6758.T>-backed technology and are supported by most of the major U.S. movie studios.

Both formats came on the market last year. Blu-Ray outsold HD DVD 2-to-1 in the United States in the first half of 2007. An estimated 3.7 million high-definition discs have been sold, overall, including 2.2 million in Blu-Ray and 1.5 million in HD DVD through July, according to Home Media Research.

Har personligen funderat på frågan som jag nu kommer ställa, och den aktualiseras ju än mer efter denna nyhet. Ska man som PS3 ägare, införskaffa en ren HD-DVD inom det snaraste/längre fram i höst? Eller ska man istället invänta Samsungs kombospelare som kommer senare under 4:e kavartalet?

Delikat fråga, men ändå tåls den att grunna på. Just nu väger Samsungen över, dock är det ju aldrig fel att kunna spara in ngr extra tusenlappar i längden. Det innebär ju att man i så fall har råd att köpa ngr extra filmer istället...

Det som främst talar emot att nu köpa en ren HD-DVD spelare, är väl att hur man än vänder och vrider på det (trots att jag personligen inte stör mig märkvärt), så är det väl ändå så att fläkten i PS3:an alltid kommer vara där och få en att undra hur det skulle varit att titta på en ren konversations film på Blu-Ray utan "fläktens lilla närvaro" (min låter knappt ngt alls, men som sagt, en ren stand-alone spelare låter antagligen ingenting?)

Trots allt, fortfarande två läger med bra filmer så kombospelare är inte helt fel strategi!

Nä, men eftersom jag som PS3 ägar redan kan titta på det ena formatet, så behöver jag ju inte lägga ut lika mycket pengar (som en kombospelare innebär) om jag väljer att införskaffa en ren HD-DVD spelare. På så sätt får jag ju båda sidor trots allt...

Dock känns det smidigare med en kombospelare, och på så sätt ha PS3:an enbart till "spelande". Men som sagt, det blir ju billigare att köpa en ren HD-DVD, än att vänta och införskaffa Samsungs kombospelare...

Därav att valet inte är sjävlklart.

Transformers studio and fellow Viacom brands drop most support for Blu-ray format; only Spielberg-directed films remain platform agnostic.

Sony's Blu-ray high-definition disc format had scored a number of solid blows in its ongoing battle with Toshiba's HD-DVD in recent months. In June, movie rental chain Blockbuster committed to offering only Blu-ray high-definition discs in its stores, citing the integration of the format into the PlayStation 3 among its reasons. Last week, Home Media Research analysts said that Blu-ray disc sales doubled those of HD-DVD for the first half of the year.

However, today the HD-DVD camp gets to tout a major victory, as Paramount announced that it is now exclusive to Toshiba's chosen format, taking its DreamWorks Animation SKG, DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films brands with it. There are a handful of exceptions to this exclusivity, as films directed by Steven Spielberg won't be exclusive to either platform.

Films executive produced by Spielberg can still be HD-DVD exclusive, as Paramount said it is kicking off its platform monogamy with HD-DVD releases of Transformers, Shrek the Third, and Blades of Glory. Set to go on sale next Tuesday, Blades of Glory had originally been announced as a release for Blu-ray as well as HD-DVD.

"We believe the combination of this year's low-priced HD DVD players and the commitment to release a significant number of hit titles in the fall makes HD DVD the best way to view movies at home," said DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg in a statement.

Supporters of the Toshiba's format include Universal Pictures and Microsoft, which recently dropped the price of its Xbox 360 HD-DVD player to $179.

Och min kollega är fortfarande på sin 5:e P(is)S3  han är inte riktigt nöjd.

Nä, han verkar verkligen ha haft otur! Sen är varken han eller jag (raka motsatsen med min PS3:as fläkt) ngt som statistiskt sätt visar hur fläkten i en PS3 överlag är.

Men visst, den låter, och just vetskapen om att komma ifrån detta med en kombospelare väger nog trots allt över. Sen är det ju dock så att vi ännu inte sett ngr priser, samt hur bra dessa är. Plus att priserna på HD-DVD spelarna är väldigt atraktiva.

Hade från början planerat att efter köpet av PS3:an, ganska så snart införskaffa en HD-DVD. Men nu när Samsung snart släpper sina kombospelare plus den här nyhete, är jag inte lika säker längre på vad jag ska välja... Ibland är det svårt med I-landsproblem.

Har samma motsatta dilemma, har HD DVD spelare men vill ej ta kostnaden för kombospelare, lutar åt en bättre HD DVD spelare med dagens nyhet...

Jag vill dock ha möjligheten att se alla filmer i HD, och därför struntar jag personligen helt och hållet i ngt slag "krig" (ser det mer som en fördel för prissänkningar... ). Därav att jag är helt inne på att inom en snar framtid se till så att jag kan se båda formaten så smidigt som möjligt. Personligen vägrar jag att i längden inte kunna köpa en viss film som släppts i HD-format, bara för att man inte har hårdvaran för att kunna spela upp den.

Ganska svårt val multimedia. Det handlar ju om hur mycket du är beredd att betala och hur länge du kan vänta. Samsungs kombo känns som ett riktigt bra alternativ, men man vet ju inte hur bra den kommer vara. köper du däremot en toshiba e1 idag så har du två spelare, och kan vänta ett par år till det släpps riktigt bra och billiga kombos.
