The long-gestating film adaptation of Stephen King'sThe Stand is now set to be split into multiple movies.
Following King's hint last month, The Stand's director Josh Boone revealed on Kevin Smith's Hollywood Babble-On podcast that Warner Bros. liked the idea of King's epic novel being packaged as an event movie series rather than one long feature. So now, the project, which was once a "a single, R-rated movie," has become a four-film series.
"I can’t tell you anything about how we’re going to do them, or what’s going to be in which movie. I’ll just say we are going to do four movies, and we’re going to do The Stand at the highest level you can do it at, with a cast that’s going to blow people’s minds," Boone said. "We’ve already been talking to lots of people, and have people on board in certain roles that people don’t know about. We’re looking to go into production next year, maybe in the spring."
Boone, who directed The Fault In Our Stars, also said that he was willing to drop his original script "because you’re able to do an even truer version" of the story as four parts.
Last we heard, Matthew McConaughey was also in talks to join the cast as the villainous Randall Flagg. Actor Nat Wolff (Palo Alto, Fault In Our Stars) has also signed on to the film.
