SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI V DEVS EXPLAIN THE GAME'S CONCEPT, WHY IT'S COMING TO SWITCH

24 October, 2017 by rawmeatcowboy

Shin-Megami-Tensei-V_2017_10-23-17_003.jpg

The team working on Shin Megami Tensei V revealed some more tidbits in a Famitsu feature. The interview includes Kazuyuki Yamai, who previously worked as the director of Shin Megami Tensei IV.

Yamai will lead the development team for Shin Megami Tensei V.
According to Yamai, the concept behind Shin Megami Tensei V is to look back and reflect on the characteristics of the times. Furthermore, Atlus said they are bringing the game to Switch to allow players to enjoy the story in HD on their TVs, then take their Switch units with them to grind and fuse demons on the go, or even from the comfort of their beds.

Shin Megami Tensei V will be a game that sympathizes with the times

by Sal Romano at 08:41 AM EDT, October 24, 2017.

SMTV-Fami-Interview_10-24-17.jpg

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has the first interview on Shin Megami Tensei V following its formal announcement for Switch yesterday.

Development on Shin Megami Tensei V is being led by ‎Kazuyuki Yamai, who directed both Shin Megami Tensei IV and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

Get the tidbits below.

The first Shin Megami Tensei title was released in October, 25 years ago. We wanted to tell everyone that the Shin Megami Tensei series will continue, so we used this timing to make the announcement.
One of the directions we are taking with Shin Megami Tensei V is to reexamine the “characteristics of the era.” There are surely many people frustrated by troubles both at home and abroad, such as anxiety about finding a job and getting old, or terrorists and nuclear weapons. I want to make a Shin Megami Tensei game that can sympathize with such an era. That is our challenge.
The keywords “Shekinah Glory,” which appeared in the trailer, literally translate to “miracle of God.” When you actually play it and have these keywords in your head, I think you will be able to feel their true meaning.
Shinagawa Station is one spot where modern day Tokyo is well represented. Of course, it is also involved in the story.
This is the first time Atlus is using Unreal Engine 4. The game development environment has changed dramatically, and you can check what you made immediately on the game screen, allowing us to cut down on a lot of time working over ideas and trial-and-error. I’m really grateful to have been introduced to it.
Nintendo Switch is a lovely platform where you can play high-definition quality games and freely carry the hardware from place to place.
According to Ryokutya2089, the reason Atlus chose to make Shin Megami Tensei V for Switch is because it plays high-definition quality games that you can freely take with you. Yamai said he wants to see users play the game in ways such as enjoying the story on their TV, and enjoying side activities such as demon fusion while in bed.
Classic elements like demon fusion will of course be included. We are also considering new elements.
Since this is the first Shin Megami Tensei game on a home console in a long time, I want to deliver a hybrid game that combines the profound appeal of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and the popular training elements of Shin Megami Tensei IV and the like.
At this point, we can’t even say it’s “Coming Soon!” yet, so please wait a little while longer.

Thanks, Famitsu and Hachima Kikou.

Switch Exclusive Shin Megami Tensei V’s Development Currently in the “Scrap and Build” Phase
Developers behind Shin Megami Tensei V for Nintendo Switch are making no compromises with first home console entry in the series in a long time.

Giuseppe Nelva

Following the intriguing reveal of Shin Megami Tensei V, many have been wondering about what kind of development progress there has been on the game, and when we’ll hear more.

Today, as part of a massive New Year group interview, the Japanese website 4Gamer got an answer from Shin Megami Tensei series Producer Kazuyuki Yamai.

Yamai-san explains that this is the first time on a long time that a numbered Shin Megami Tensei game gets released on home consoles, so he aims to develop it properly, without making any compromise.

Currently, details are being filled up, art is being created, and the process is in the “scrap and build” phase, iterating the gameplay on the actual console. We also hear that he’d like to have a formal reveal as soon as possible, and he would be pleased if fans could be patient for a while.

For those unfamiliar with the “scrap and build” expression, it’s actually rather typical of Japan. It’s a very relevant local concept for architecture and urban development: instead of renovating buildings, the Japanese often prefer to knocking them down and build completely new ones on the land. Basically, the team is in a phase of iteration and trial and error. It definitely fits the “no compromise” policy mentioned by Yamai-san.

If you want to see more of the game (basically everything there is to see), you can check out the teaser trailer released in October.

Shin Megami Tensei V doesn’t have a release window or even a year at the moment, but we do know that it has been announced exclusively for the Nintendo Switch and that it will be released in the west.

Shin Megami Tensei V producer: still working hard on the game, no compromises, news at a later date

Posted on August 27, 2018 by Matt(@OnePunchMaz) in NewsSwitch

Shin Megami Tensei V was announced all the way back at the Nintendo Switch reveal event in January 2017. Since then, we haven’t heard a whole lot about the game from Atlus. Today, the game’s producer, Kazuyuki Yamai, broke the silence at least a little bit in an interview. While he didn’t really provide any real new info, he said that “the team is still working hard” on the game, that “no compromises” would be made to make the game deserving of being a mainline Shin Megami Tensei title, and that more news would be shared at a later date when the time is right.

Perhaps we will we hear something concrete about SMT V at Tokyo Game Show next month. That would certainly be an appropriate venue.
