Sony announced today that, as part the PlayStation 4's version 4.50 software update, much-anticipated Blu-ray 3D playback will be available inside the company's popular virtual reality headset.
The device, used primarily for immersive video gaming, is also capable of playing back Blu-ray movies at several different sizes, all but mimicking the sensation of watching a huge screen in a movie theater. The new update will allow users to get closer to the action than ever with full Blu-ray 3D support.
In a news posting on its dedicated PlayStation Blog, Sony said "If you're a fan of 3D movies, and you own PlayStation VR, we've got good news — this update adds the ability to view 3D movies in stereoscopic 3D directly on the PS VR headset. Grab some popcorn and enjoy!"
A release date for system software 4.50 was not announced.
