'The Walking Dead' Fires Writing Staff
Executive producer Charles Eglee is among those to go.
AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has shown that zombies can be done in the small screen, with the latest episode attracting a highly respectable 5.5 million viewers. A second season has already been commissioned, but now it looks like it will go ahead without any writers.
A statement from AMC cryptically confirmed that "there will be changes to the writing staff"; however, sources have apparently stated that the series won’t be changing its writing team but will instead get rid of it altogether.
As entertaining as it sounds, that doesn’t mean the second season will throw zombies into an abandoned city with a handful of survivors and then film the results. Instead, the second season will have no full-time writers, and the majority of new scripts will be submitted by freelance writers.
Executive producer Frank Darabont scripted the pilot episode for the zombie series, going on to write the second episode and then co-writing the next four installments (two of which were submitted by non-staff writers).
Among those let go is executive producer Charles Eglee, who has been described as Darabont’s No. 2 when it comes to running the series.
For the second season, Darabont will be scribing most of the episodes himself with the rest going to freelancers; however, the move is expected to be a tricky one to pull off with the Writers Guild (WGA). The sophomore season will also feature more episodes, with the order being increased to 13 as opposed to the six that make up the freshman year.
A decision has yet to be made on when the second season will air, but all signs are pointing to an October premiere so that the series can re-launch during Fearfest 2011.
“The Walking Dead” airs Sundays at 10 p.m.

Aim for the heads på er...

Blev väl antagligen för dyrt att både visa "The Event" och "The Walking Dead" bara ca 1 vecka efter USA.

Die hard fans of AMC's new acclaimed series "The Walking Dead" can quench their thirst of the new season with this featurette that the cable has just released. While it's general knowledge that the show is not returning for another chapter until October next year, producers and cast tide fans over with their perspective of what may happen after the explosive finale.
One thing that they emphasize is the fact that it is yet known what caused the outbreak. Co-producer Denise Huth said, "We need next season to answer all these questions". Robert Kirkman whose comic books are adapted into the series doesn't have the intention to end the story anytime soon nor does he have a plan to wrap it in a specific number of season, Huth revealed.
Showrunner Frank Darabont shared his vision, saying "I want the audience to feel uncertain when they tune in. My hope is that if we're lucky enough to be in a long run in a show like this, then we can make the stakes as high as we can as we go along."
Andrew Lincoln who plays the main hero, Rick Grimes, added, "Hopefully, you'll be happily surprised". Other than the cast and crew's takes on the new season, there is zero new footage and no slightest hint of what will happen after [Spoiler Alert] the group of survivors left the CDC quite devastated.
Nevertheless, more about season 2 is expected to be unveiled during the show's panel at 28th Annual William S. Paley Television Festival which takes place between March 4 and 18 next yea

Me like much!

The Walking Dead Season 2 May Feature Tyrese and Michonne
Robert Kirkman, who created the graphic novel the hit AMC series The Walking Dead is based on, revealed that characters such as Tyrese and Michonne from the comic book could surface in Season 2. He gave Tyrese a 68 percent chance of showing up in the second season, and Michonne a 50 percent chance. Another fan-favorite character from the graphic novel, The Governor, will not appear in Season 2, although there is a 92 percent chance he will show up in Season 3. Here's what Robert Kirkman had to say about the development of Season 2.
"We are in the writers' room right now and trying to sketch out a season 2 plan. Anyone who knows how that process works knows that stuff changes day by day. We are in the massive brainstorming phase. We are talking it all out."
Robert Kirkman also indicated he would love to see the return of Lennie James and Adrian Kali Turner as the father-son duo of Morgan and Duane Jones.
"Everyone would like it to be 100 percent because everyone loves Lennie James and we're just dying to get him back in the show as soon as possible, I think those odds are probably 65-35. He's such a great actor. We want them both back as soon as possible."
The Walking Dead's second season will debut on AMC sometime this October.

'The Walking Dead': Stephen King in talks to write an episode of AMC's zombie series
AMC’s zombie sensation The Walking Dead might be getting a serious scare injection on its writing staff for next season. Iconic horror novelist (and former EW columnist) Stephen King has confirmed with EW that he’s currently in talks to write an episode of the post-apocalyptic series. Dead is executive-produced by Frank Darabont, who has directed three films based on King’s work — four, if you count his 1983 short film The Woman in the Room — and King tells EW exclusively that Darabont “has expressed enthusiastic interest for season 2 or possibly 3.” Although the author is still early in negotiations, the current plan would be for King to co-write an episode with his son, Joe Hill, the author of horror novels Heart-Shaped Box and Horns.
'Walking Dead' Creator Begs Charlie Sheen to Appear in Season 2 (Exclusive)
Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is clearly a huge fan of Charlie Sheen.
The writer of the graphic novels and executive producer of the hit AMC television series tells The Hollywood Reporter he would love Sheen to appear in the second season.
"Charlie call us, we we will totally make that happen," he says, speaking from the Paley Center Walking Dead event Friday. "We'll do whatever you want."
So what could Sheen expect? Perhaps lead in the series even though the part of Sheriff Rick Grimes is played by actor Andrew Lincoln.
"We'll recast YOU as Rick," says Kirkman, still speaking to Sheen with tongue very much in cheek. "Andrew Lincoln will find something else to do."
Other options? "He can direct an episode," says Kirkman.
"Actually (Sheen) could play a car for all I care," he adds. "He's awesome."

OBS!!

Zombies and carnage are an eye-popping slice of AMC's "The Walking Dead," but the show's real heart lies in the inner journey of its characters, according to executive producer Gale Anne Hurd.
Based on Robert Kirkman's acclaimed comic, the series returns Oct. 16 for an expanded Season 2 that features 13 episodes. AMC will air it in a new time slot: 9 p.m.
"We have such terrific character-driven stories," Hurd said in an interview with AMC. "Since we set up the world, now we're able to delve into the dynamic of the characters among those survivors to a degree that we weren't last season given the short order of episodes.
"And that's what I'm most excited about -- to really deliver on that promise from last year. We want to take some literary license with the comic book, such as being able to develop a love triangle between Rick and Shane and Lori. So that's something that clearly, although it deviates from the comic book in the sense that Shane's around a lot longer, gives us an opportunity to really explore what it means to each one of the characters."
The series follows police officer Rick Grimes as he leads his family and a group of survivors across the country in search of a safe home as zombie hordes threaten their every move.
So what new dangers await Grimes and his companions?
"What I can tell you is that we have a lot of surprises in store this season," Hurd teased, "even more time to spend with the great cast that we've got, and more time to spend bashing zombies."
"The Walking Dead" is helmed by three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (“The Shawshank Redemption,” “The Green Mile”), who serves as an executive producer, director and writer on the show.
The series stars Andrew Lincoln ("Love, Actually," "Teachers"), Jon Bernthal ("The Pacific," "The Ghost Writer"), Steven Yeun, Sarah Wayne Callies ("Prison Break"), Chandler Riggs ("Get Low"), Jeffrey DeMunn ("The Green Mile") and Laurie Holden ("Shield").
