Ja nin och det är bra. Vi får tänka på att Lucas inte var nöjd med originalen pågrund av att han inte hade pengar att göra dom rättvisa. Han kunde inte göra filmerna som hade tänkt ut, så det fick bli vad de kunde göra då.

Nu har den officiella designen på boxen R1 släppts. Det sker egentligen först på måndag för "allmänheten", men på starwars.com som är den officiella Star Wars-siten kan betalande medlemmar logga in och få en tjuvtitt. Så här kommer R1-boxen att se ut:
Widescreenutgåvan kommer att vara i platinum likt bilden ovan medan Fullscreen blir i guld. Boxen kommer att rymma fyra keepcase, en för varje film samt bonusskivan. Omslagen för filmerna är designade att matcha Episode I och II. Som sagt det är först på måndag som alla icke-betalande kan få en titt på boxen samt att Lucas & C:o släpper uppgifterna men detta är the real deal.

EDIT: Bilden visar ej två olika varianter av boxen utan bara olika sidor. Bättre att vara övertydlig än otydlig.

Jag vågar gissa på att R2SWE får samma design dvs den i silver, likt Indiana Jones-boxen där vi fick exakt samma design som R1.

Måste nog säga att jag är något besviken om man jämför det slutgiltiga resultatet med prototyperna. Det finns ett flertal scenarier gällande boxarna som kan inträffa, varav ett är att fler boxar kommer att släppas.
Sedan tycker jag att det är lite negativt att boxarna är olika för widescreen och fullscreen, då det finns en liten risk för att man skulle tycka att fullscreen boxen är snyggare. Hade föredragit en enhetlig design. Själv hoppas jag att man väljer någon av prototypdesignerna för R2, men det är nog inte troligt.
En annan sak som kan te sig lite intressant är denna box från Paulchampagne, designad för Criterion´s utgåvor av SW. Denna box fanns långt tidigare än Neuron Syndicate´s boxar. Designen känns bekant på något sätt...

Visst hade det varit mer speciellt med en design likt de tidigare visade prototyperna, men som sagt detta lär tyvärr inte ske. Jag gissar på att det helt enkelt blir lättare för Lucas & C:o att köra samma design på regionerna, förutom då R3 som har en förmåga att spexa till det hela lite extra. Men utöver den regionen kommer det nog att bli samma design på boxen världen över. Detta är dock bara min gissning.Själv hoppas jag att man väljer någon av prototypdesignerna för R2, men det är nog inte troligt.
Sedan förstår jag inte alls vad du menar med att jämföra Champagne-boxarna med dessa Star Wars. Det finns inga som helst likheter ju.

Frågan är bara vem som kommer köpa fullscreen (pan&scan) boxen... Lika lätt att ändra till pan&scan på själva dvd-spelaren ju.

Nej, jag vet faktiskt inte. De undrade på HTF också, men det står "The Criterion Collection" på sidan, så jag antog att det var en box till existerande Criterion utgåvor.

Vad komiskt, han har alltså designat boxen till dels de individer som mödosamt överförda sina LD-versioner till DVD, eller de som plockade upp ett par fulDVD på Thailandsresan.

DVD Answers rapporterar lite överraskande nyheter från Lucasarts pressrelease för den kommande boxen gällande R2UK. Det visar sig att den faktiskt kommer att släppas före USA vilket ger den ett releasedatum satt till den 20:e september. Dessutom skiljer sig boxens design något mot R1:an.

Jag ser inte vad som är annorlunda mellan R! & R2UK. Menar du att gråskalorna skiljer sig åt? – Det finns åtminstone tre tänkbara skäl till detta:
1. Trycket är olika, dvs pressarna skiljer sig. – Skulle inte kalla det för avvikande design dock.
2. Fotografen har ljussatt boxen annorlunda. Kan vara lite svårt att sätta upp ljus (och kamera) exakt som någon annan gjort (speciellt med annan utrustning).
3. Någon har lekt (alternativt låtit bli all leka) i Photoshop med bilden. Inte speciellt komplicerat att lätta upp lågdagrar eller försöka hitta mer teckning i skuggiga partier. Bara att spara bilden med olika gamma eller profil skulle kunna ge en sådan förändring.

Se till ryggen framför allt, där ser man att det skiljer grafiskt hur IV-VI är utformat och färgsatt. Dessutom har R2UK tydligare utformning av frontfigurerna samt en mörkare ton. Färgen på ryggen är annorlunda. Dessutom har inte R2UK alla solreflexdetaljer som R1:an har.
Dessa har officiella bilder från Lucasarts och deras pressreleaser har nämnt dessa skiljande punkter, och med tanke på hur noggranna de är med att få bort piratbilder eller hobbysnickerier av deras omslag så tvivlar jag på att det helt enkelt rör sig om samma box med olika bildkvalité. Dessutom är det så många siter som har bekräftat dessa bilder samt infon med olika design på boxarna.

Okej, man verkar ha flyttat om de ljusa och mörka partierna i bakgrunden och sedan har den ena ljus text på ryggen och mörk logga och den andra tvärsom.
Angående solreflexdetaljerna så kommer det sig säkert av att R2UK-bilden är svartvit. Bilden i sig är sparad i RGB-format istället för i gråskala, men det finns ingen färginformation i pixlarna. Om jag tar in R1-bilden i Photoshop och konverterar den till gråskala och drar lite i reglaget för nivåer hamnar jag *väldigt* nära R2UK (bortsett från färgen – eller snarare svartmängden – på texten).
Har ingen möjlighet att hosta före-efterbilden, men annars blev de väldigt lika.

Ny information släppt om boxen och kommentatorspåren. Till episod IV-VI kommer George Lucas, Ben Burtt, Dennis Muren och Carrie Fisher att medverka. Regissören Irvin Kershner ansluter till Empire Strikes Back och till Return Of The Jedi finns Lawrence Kasdan med.
Sedan utlovas den mest välproducerande och heltäckande dokumentären som någonsin gjorts om Star Wars-sagan till den fjärde bonusskivan samt aldrig tidigare visat material från alla de tre inspelningarna.

Ok håll i er nu. Vi vet att Mr Lucas har gjort vissa ytterligare förändringar i orginaltrilogin som släpps nu i september för att få filmerna att mer matcha de nya Episoderna I-III. Men nu syns det första resultatet av dessa förändringar. Beskåda följande och läs från The Digital Bits:
Okay kids... so you want proof that further changes are being made to the Star Wars films for the forthcoming DVD release? Well, this COULD be it...
That top image is, supposedly, an actual shot of Ian McDiarmid as Emperor Palpatine, newly inserted into The Empire Strikes Back in place of the original actor (bottom image). This pic has been circulating around the Net for a few days now. The split screen comparison you see here was created by someone on one of the Star Wars fan boards. But the image at the top (at least the actual face shot of McDiarmid) reportedly leaked from someone involved with the production. We had pretty much dismissed it... BUT. The interesting thing is, we've shown this image to insiders we know have seen the real work (three separate sources now), and they've independently confirmed that the scene HAS changed and that the top image (of McDiarmid in make-up) is authentic. One other scene we've heard is being revamped is the CGI Jabba scene from A New Hope. Look for the digital Jabba to be replaced by a much better looking CG version (likely based on the Episode I digital model of the character).
Tell you what... if this pans out, I don't mind either of these changes. Better still, I'd eat a whole freakin' herd of Bantha if Lucas would just restore the Han/Greedo scene in A New Hope so that Han shoots first again. Anyone care to join me? Cross your fingers, folks... and fire up the barbecue pit.

Angående förändingar som Lucas och CO gör i original-trilogin: Till viss del helt ok. Vissa förändingar snyggare ju naturligtvis till filmen och gör den mer jämnställd med de nya filmerna..på det tekniska planet...storymässigt so far har de inte en chans (Hoppas att en riktigt mörk Episode 3 ska läka mina sår efter Ep 1 och 2. Och det skär i ett gammalt Star Wars-hjärta, som varit med sedan då Return of the jedi hade premiär på bio att original trilogin inte släpps i original utförande....än.

Dom ska nog anställa riktiga skådespelare innan man börjar hoppas att episod 3 blir bra. Man sitter ju och gapflabbar åt hur stela de är i 1 och 2.

Egentligen är de väl lika stela i Ep. IV-VI, fast deras karaktärer är mer av det mänskliga slaget. I de nya filmerna så är ju alla karaktärer totalt enkelspåriga och "duktiga"...

Erik points out the NY Times for a new article on Lowry Digital, the company behind the restoration of the new DVDs of the Classics. They're certainly the pioneers in the field and do some of the best work to date:
"We're making an archive for DVD, film, digital cinema, HDTV, TV, whatever that will last the next two or three generations of technology," Mr. Lowry said.
Thirty-five years ago, Mr. Lowry, who is now 71, patented a method of cleaning up NASA's live televised transmissions from the moon. Six years ago, as the DVD took off, he set up Lowry Digital then a two-man R & D shop to apply his techniques to digital restoration.
He hired a photographer to make a short 35-millimeter film clip of some children playing soccer on a lakeshore. He paid a local lab to transfer the film to digital video, using a 4K scanner. The picture was clear, sharp, detailed. He then processed the images with his film-restoration software, which he'd programmed onto some Macintosh G4 computers. (The effort took months, as the faster G5's weren't out yet.) The processed picture was clearer, sharper and more detailed still. He could see every divot on the turf. What had once looked like a smudge in the background was now recognizable as a boat on the lake.
In January 2000, some executives from Warner Brothers saw his demo. They were so impressed, they faxed him an order the same day to restore the masters for three DVD's: "Gone With the Wind," "Now Voyager" and "North by Northwest." With the advance money, he bought the computers he needed to do the job.
Since then, he has bought hundreds of computers, hired a staff of 30 and worked on 80 DVD's including the long-awaited DVD of "Star Wars" erasing wear, tears, dirt, scratches and other ravages of age. (In the early days, he sometimes erased too much. By his own admission, his restoration of "Citizen Kane" is too clean; the natural grain of film is gone; it looks like a video. He later figured out how to fix flaws while preserving grain.)
Many restoration specialists do this sort of work manually, often frame by frame. Mr. Lowry may be the first to do digital restoration while the images are still in a digital format a bunch of 0's and 1's inside a computer before they're transferred to video.
Not long ago, MGM sent a camera crew to interview him about his restoration techniques for a "special feature" to be included on the Bond DVD's. The question now is how long it will take MGM to release these DVD's and how long it will take other studios and digital-mastering houses to catch on in short, how long it will take for the future to begin.

Konstigt att Discshop inte har ett erbjudande om bättre pris för Guldkunder för SW boxen. Trodde att den var en självskriven kandidat. Dock skulle det inte förvåna mig om priset sjunker strax efter releasen, som det gjorde för Schindler´s List.

Förstår inte att många av er tycker att den är dyr? Jag tycker den är rätt ok pris på den för det som följer med i boxen. Visst vill man ha det lägsta priset men inte tror jag det kommer bli så mycket lägre än de 524:- man får betala på discshop. Samt att man får den hemskickad så att man har den den dagen den släpps.

R1 blir det väl för min del, men jag har inte bokat än. Det är ju ingen Limited Edition så jag känner ingen direkt tidsnöd att börja med förhandsbokning för tillfället.

Pratade med Discshop nyligen och de kommer INTE att erbjuda SW som ett guldkundserbjudande. Möjligtvis kommer de att sänka priset om det visar sig vara för högt. Men det blir samma pris för alla i vilket fall.

Ni som inte vill boka gör ju inte det såklart. jag bokade för att jag älskar serien sedan vill jag ha den samma dag =) och skulle jag vinna plasman så skulle jag ju inte gråta då får jag tv + boxen för 525:-

Nej den här boxen kommer jag att plocka upp i butik då jag vill ha R2SWE eftersom de tidigare filmerna är det samt, att jag inte vill ha en massa repor eller andra skador på boxen orsakade av Postens varsamma hantering. Det är som AVR4000 skrev:
