Top Gear and “Forza Motorsport” Join Forces in Unique, Multi-year Collaboration

“Forza Motorsport 3 Ultimate Collection” available starting this October including exclusive download codes for Top Gear TV Content, Car Pack and Xbox LIVE theme

The hottest name in racing games and the world’s biggest car show today announced the beginning of a long-term collaboration, kicking off with the release of Forza Motorsport 3 Ultimate Collection in October. The award-winning “Forza Motorsport” franchise is collaborating with BBC’s Top Gear team to integrate the Top Gear brand in future versions of “Forza Motorsport” products. The relationship will also deliver a number of co-promotions that aim to give fans of both “Forza Motorsport” and Top Gear a unique opportunity to engage in both brands. With “Forza Motorsport” expertise in digital automotive experiences and Top Gear’s irreverent approach to car reviews and entertainment, the collaboration promises to deliver an unrivalled experience for all keen gamers and car enthusiasts.

“Bringing together Top Gear and Forza Motorsport is a natural fit,” said Dan Greenawalt, franchise director at Turn 10, the studio within Microsoft Game Studios that created and nurtures the Forza Motorsport franchise and community. “Top Gear is all about automotive passion and playing around with cars which is exactly what we deliver with Forza Motorsport games. Fans will get their first taste of the results of this collaboration with 90 minutes of specially edited Top Gear TV content plus access to the ‘Stig’s Garage Car Pack’, all downloadable exclusively through Xbox LIVE, as part of the new “Forza Motorsport 3 Ultimate Collection” available from this October.

Microsoft has just released some numbers about the Xbox 360 and its usage, perhaps most notable among them the fact that the 25 million Xbox Live members worldwide use the service for an average of more than 30 hours per month. That equates to more than one billion hours spent on Xbox Live each and every month.
It's unclear exactly what Microsoft counts as time spent on Xbox Live. Even so, it's an impressively high number ahead of the expansion of Xbox Live to nine new countries at some point this fall.

Other facts shared by Major Nelson over on his blog include the fact that there have been 42 million Xbox 360 consoles sold across the 35 countries it's available in. Over the past year, there has been an increase of 157% in time spent watching movies and television shows on 360. Additionally, 42% of Xbox Live Gold members spend an average of one hour watching either TV or movies on their 360, which works out to over 30 hours of usage every month.

While this really more or less comes down to Microsoft bragging about some impressive (albeit hand-picked) numbers, it's still interesting to get some insight into the usage habits of Xbox 360 owners. It's very possible these numbers will grow even more beginning next week with the launch of Kinect and the new dashboard update.

Free Xbox Live weekend starts November 26

Earn double XP in Call of Duty: Black Ops

Microsoft's Xbox newsletter tries to make light of it by plugging its own game, Halo: Reach first, but those who bother to read more than a single bullet point will discover that Call of Duty: Black Ops will be having a double XP weekend this week.


This double XP weekend for the biggest online game of the moment will be taking place concurrently with an Xbox Live Free weekend from November 26th to the 28th.

A great jumping in point for those who haven't taken their Black Ops games online yet.

During this weekend you'll be able to receive all the benefits of a Gold subscriber without having to shell out a single Microsoft Point. This includes Facebook, Twitter, streaming movies and the Zune marketplace.

There are no specifics with regards to start and end times, so we're assuming it's a midnight to midnight deal.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Gets First Strike DLC Pack

Love it or hate it there is no denying the fact that Activision’s latest Call of Duty installment, Black Ops, has been immensely popular. If you’re one who is partial to the game you may remember us telling you how the game’s first map pack, dubbed First Strike, would be dropping on February 1st. Well, here we are on the 1st of the month and the First Strike map pack is in fact available for download in the Xbox Live Marketplace for 1200 Microsoft Points. Of course, PS3 and PC gamers hoping to get down on the fun will be discouraged to hear that the pack will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 for about a month. Bummer.

Anyways, the First Strike map pack includes 4 new multiplayer maps dubbed Discovery, Berlin Wall, Kowloon and Stadium. Also included in the pack, however, is a map made especially for the game’s Zombie mode dubbed Ascension (no, not the Halo map).

We first heard about Microsoft's plans to move Xbox 360 profile and save data to the cloud at the company's E3 press conference early last month, and today those plans are beginning to take shape. An update is slowly being rolled out to Xbox 360 consoles that moves gamer profile data and game saves for certain Xbox Live Arcade titles to a cloud storage space, allowing it to be accessed from any console.

Moving game saves and player information to a non-local storage space offers several benefits. Gamers who purchase new consoles, perhaps to upgrade hard drive space or simply because their previous system died, will no longer have to mess with complicated transfer procedures. Simply signing in to your Xbox Live account will give you access to all of the data you need in order to continue your games right where you left off. It also provides an extra level of security, as Microsoft's servers will (hopefully) be an ironclad vault and offer added protection against data loss.

Currently, only certain Xbox Live games are set up to save to the cloud. This slow and steady approach is likely Microsoft's way of preventing any possibly snafus that might be created by dropping the full weight of the Xbox 360 library onto the service at once. Additional titles are expected to be added in short order, though no timeframe has been revealed for when specific games will make the leap to the cloud

Xbox 360 System Update coming this Tuesday
Sometime during the day tomorrow (Tuesday, July 19th) when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll receive a prompt to accept a mandatory system update. If you are signed into LIVE already, you may be signed out and asked to accept the update and you’ll be back online in a few moments.

There are no new features that will show up once your system has been updated.

This update is preparation for additional system enhancements coming to Xbox 360 later this year.

If you have turned on your Xbox 360 today you may have noticed that once connected to Xbox Live a new update was forced upon your console, we now know exactly what this mandatory system update consists off, but don’t get too excited as there is nothing interesting to tell you about.

Larry Hryb aka MajorNelson recently posted details regarding this update on his website, here he confirmed that no new features would be available post update, in fact all this update does is prepare your console for a more substantial update which is coming to Xbox 360 later this year, perhaps this will bring some of the neat features which were showcased at E3 2011 last month.

You can watch a video which runs through all of the Xbox related E3 2011 announcements here, lots of innovative new features are coming to Xbox Live and the Xbox 360 such as Bing powered voice search, also UFC events will soon be watchable via your console and you will soon have access to YouTube, we are sure that this recent system update has a lot to do with these upcoming features.

Because of the nature of the update we very much doubt that it will cause any problems to consoles, however if you installed the update and discovered an issue we would love you to tell us about it in the comments section below, we done some searching around and by the looks of things most people installed the update successfully.

If the update has not hit your console yet do not worry, sometimes such updates take a while to populate certain regions, therefore it may be late today, early tomorrow before your receive it. If you are still waiting for the update, or you are disappointed by the lack of exciting changes this update brings why not get inventive in the comments section below by stating what new features / enhancements future updates could bring to the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live to improve things, below we have came up with an ideas which we think could become popular.

Previously we have seen Facebook and Twitter hit Xbox Live, therefore we think it would be great if some sort of Google+ software was intigrated into Xbox Live, perhaps it could automatically put friends into an Xbox Live circle and share in-game experiences with them, for example:

3D uppdatering på väg


The latest Xbox 360 update which will be available via the latest batch of games and most likely via Xbox Live in the coming days finally places the Xbox 360 on an even keel with the PS3.

The new update allows users to enabled 3D for use with 3D TV sets. The text reads "Enable 3D to use stereoscopic 3D in games and experiences that support it. The option also has a setting which will detect TV size and also allow users to input the size manually.

The PS3 has had these options for quite some time via one of its updates but is good news that the Xbox 360 finally recognizes 3D games; especially in light of the announcement of 3D support for Gears of War 3, Batman Arkham City and Halo CE: Anniversary. What's interesting is the use of the words "games and experiences", could this mean Xbox 360 will be getting 3D movies from SKY and Netflicks in the near future?

Modern Warfare 3 sets Xbox Live concurrent player record

Most gamers playing one title online simultaneously



After just two days of availability, the number of gamers playing Modern Warfare 3 simultaneously on Xbox Live "set a new peak concurrency record".


That's according to Microsoft data passed along to Call of Duty publisher Activision, which said earlier today that Modern Warfare 3 has broken all-time entertainment launch records.
The game sold over 6.5 million copies in the US and UK alone in its first 24 hours of availability, generating a staggering $400 million.

2010's CoD: Black Ops was last week's most played game on Xbox Live ahead of Battlefield 3, which was the UK chart No.1 on Monday. No prizes for guessing which game is going to snatch both those titles next week.

Modern Warfare 3 secures most played on Xbox Live

Major Nelson has just released the latest Xbox Live figures which show Activision's Juggernaut Modern Warfare 3 has shot straight in at the number one most played whilst Battlefield 3 remains in third.

Amazingly there are actually 5 Call of Duty titles in the top 20, Battlefield 3 has managed to jump Modern Warfare 2 whilst Bad Company 2 has disappeared from the top 20. Forza 4 and Batman sit just outside the top 10 and Skyrim has dropped in at number 7.

In October, nearly 40 leading TV and entertainment providers around the world announced they would bring customized, voice-controlled experiences to Xbox 360 systems. Today, MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM), the interactive media and Internet company of Major League Baseball, and VUDU became the latest leading entertainment providers to announce they are bringing their experiences to Xbox 360 consoles. MLB.TV subscribers will be able to access every regular season game, live and on-demand, in HD picture quality with an array of interactive functionalities. VUDU offers more than 45,000 blockbusters, Hollywood classics, independent films and TV shows, including the largest library of HD content available anywhere, with the highest quality streaming and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound. A Letter from Marc Whitten: A New Xbox 360 Experience

The following is a letter from CVP of Xbox LIVE Marc Whitten that he wanted me to share directly with the Xbox LIVE community.

Dear Xbox LIVE Members,
Today, we’re launching a new Xbox 360 experience that connects you with your favorite entertainment and games like never before and makes finding and enjoying entertainment as simple as it should be.
It’s a vision we shared at E3 and I’d like to thank you for all of your valuable feedback along this incredible ride and share a little more about what we have in store this holiday – from Beacons, cloud storage and Facebook sharing, to our latest entertainment offerings.

Building upon our great lineup of partners, we’ve teamed up with nearly 40 of the world’s leading TV & entertainment providers to bring you an array of live and on-demand TV, movies, games, sports and music experiences. The first wave of new partners rolls out today with experiences like EPIX and TODAY (MSNBC) in the US, LOVEFiLM in the UK, Sky Go in Germany, Premium Play by (MediaSet) in Italy and Telefonica España – Movistar Imagenio in Spain. And we’ll continue to roll out more entertainment content to Xbox LIVE in the coming months.

Beyond entertainment, you’ll find a number of features designed to make your Xbox experience more personal, social and effortless. The dashboard has an entirely new look and feel and a completely reimagined interface that makes your entertainment accessible through simple voice commands. Now, using voice search with Bing on Xbox, you can find and play the programming you want across multiple entertainment providers without having to search for a remote control. In the mood for ‘The Office?’ Just say “Xbox, Bing, ‘The Office,’” and Xbox will display all episodes available from various entertainment apps across the console.
We’re also bringing you Beacons and Facebook sharing, further integrating social into your Xbox experience. Before jumping into an episode of ‘The Office,’ you can activate a Beacon to let your friends know that you want to play, say, “Gears of War 3.” Then, sit back and relax with the Dunder Mifflin crew. The Beacon will let you know when a LIVE friend is available for a round of Horde in Gears. After the game, use Facebook Sharing to tout your achievements and showcase your in-game accomplishments through direct posts.

While we’re proud of our capability to connect you remotely to the global community of more than 35 million Xbox LIVE members, sometimes there’s nothing like being with your friends and family. And so we’ve added cloud storage so you can access game saves and your LIVE profile, including achievements, from your friends’ consoles as well.

Lastly, with the ever-expanding library of content available, we realize Xbox is enjoyed by all members of the family. Rest assured that our parental controls have improved in parallel with this new content. Parents can manage their child’s console activity, sharing on social networking sites as well as regulate access to games, movies, television, and music. Additionally, the update brings enhanced navigation to Xbox 360 Family Settings to better integrate with Kinect.
We strive to continually innovate and bring meaningful experiences to each and every member of the Xbox LIVE community. Currently, our community is already enjoying 2.1 billion hours of entertainment each month. We imagine this number will only continue to grow as you discover enhanced entertainment on Xbox this holiday that is instantly searchable, easily discoverable and enjoyable in extraordinary new ways. Bara den fungerar att spela på så är jag nöjd, vid annat tittande finns annat mycket bättre och tystare (sitter inte på en slim....).

Fungerar något med röststyrning? Jag har det i bilen, i min Iphone inget förstår min halmstad-brytning

och hur många har inte barn (och fru) som hojtar (tjatar) i bakgrunden?
Bara att få till Kinect med barn hoppandes runt är ett **** ibland. Simpelhet ska det var inte massa lull lull.

Snyggt upplägg i huvudmenyn nu enligt mig, och det här med att man kan skryta med sina achievements och visa sin "Jag vill spela BF3"-beacon på Facebook funkar också. Sen om jag kommer ha användning för det vette tusan.

Bah. Vad fan gör ni i dashboarden till att börja med?

De har fixat det största problemet med den förra; nämligen att man var tvungen att byta rad för att börja spela, och det är det jag använder min xbox till...

Vännerna dyker upp i Guide-menyn som de alltid gjort... Interfacet är kompaktare och dessutom snabbare än vad det var innan...
Ser just nu inget att klaga på. Reklamen går att undvika, till skillnad mot hur det var i förra versionen då det första valet när man startade boxen var just reklam...

Dessutom är det ju riktigt coolt att man kan se vilka av ens vänner spelade ett speciellt spel, istället för att bara få deras senaste spel.
