Hur många HD DVD-spelare har vi tillsammans?

Har precis kommit hem från USA och kunde inte låta bli att köpa A20:an + en hel hög med filmer. Mycket trevlig maskin (har iofs bara hunnit testa med en halv film och lite små snuttar). Enda nackdelen är att den är ganska långsam, det tar typ 30 s-1 min att bara starta den. Men bra bild och ljud och lagom pris (ca 2700).

Firmware Update Information for Owners of Toshiba HD DVD Players: Models HD-XA2, HD-A20, HD-A2, HD-A2W, and HD-D2
Firmware Update Version: 2.5
Applicable Models: HD-XA2, HD-A20, HD-A2, HD-A2W, and HD-D2.
Overview: As part of our commitment to provide world-class service to our customers, Toshiba is supplying this firmware update for use by purchasers of Toshiba HD DVD Player models HD-XA2 and HD-A20. This firmware update includes support for 1080p/24Hz OUTPUT, additional OSD languages, improved network connectivity supporting the download of web-enabled network content associated with certain HD DVD discs, and also addresses certain disc playback and HDMI/DVI related issues identified by Toshiba.
Important Note: Certain HD DVD discs may contain or have the capability of downloading studio-provided, web-enabled network content. To minimize any potential compatibility and/or connectivity issues, before viewing such content, it is recommended that you perform the firmware update process to ensure that your HD DVD player is using the latest firmware version.
How to obtain and install the firmware update:
1. If you have broadband internet service, you may obtain the firmware update over the internet using the Ethernet port on the back of your HD DVD Player. Instructions for configuring the Ethernet port and downloading the firmware update can be found in the owner's manual and Update Procedure sheet for your HD DVD Player. Here is an overview of the process:
BEFORE BEGINNING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCESS, BE SURE TO REMOVE ANY DISCS FROM YOUR HD DVD PLAYER.
Please configure the Ethernet port. You may need to turn on DHCP and DNS.
After you have configured the Ethernet port, follow the directions in the owner’s manual to check for a firmware update.
If a firmware update is available for your player, it will take about 20 minutes to download and install.
Once the firmware update download process has finished;
A message will appear, and the firmware update will automatically start.
When the firmware update is completed, the player will automatically turn itself off.
For the HD-XA2 player only, please also follow steps 3 through 6.
Power up the player again.
The player will display a message that another update will start.
Read the message and press OK. The message will disappear, and the second firmware update will automatically start. Please be patient during this process. (During the update, "VERUP" will flash on the display of the player.)
When the firmware update is completed, the player will automatically turn itself off.
DO NOT UNPLUG, TURN OFF, OR USE ANY OTHER FEATURE OF YOUR PLAYER DURING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCESS. Doing so will cause the writing of the firmware update to the player to be halted and the player may no longer operate properly. If the player stops working, please contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at (800) 319-6684.
If no firmware update is available, the player will quickly exit the update process.
Please refer to the owner’s manual and Update Procedure sheet for additional details.
2. If you have a PC with a CD-RW drive that is connected to the internet, you may be able to download an ISO image file of the firmware update to your PC and copy it to a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc. For more information, and to download an ISO image file of the firmware update click here.
3. If you are unable, or prefer not, to obtain the firmware update by one of the methods described above, you may contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at (800) 319-6684 and request that a firmware update disc be sent to you by mail. Q5. The HDMI output does not work or works intermittently with the HDMI or DVI input on my HDTV or monitor. Does the new firmware address that issue?
A5. The firmware update addresses and improves HDMI and DVI connectivity issues. If you still experience such issues, try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable. Make sure your display input is set to HDMI (or DVI). If your display has more than one HDMI/DVI input, make sure that all connected HDMI/DVI source devices are powered on (even if not in use). If none of these solve the issue, please turn off the TV and the HD DVD player. Check all connections. Disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable. You should also check to be sure that the disc is clean and, if the disc will not operate at all, that you are inserting the disc with the right side up. In the event that playback freezes or stops, press and hold the ON/STANDBY button on the front of the player for approximately ten seconds. This will cause the player to turn off. After the player turns off, turn the player back on by pressing the ON/STANDBY button, and then press the OPEN/CLOSE button to remove the disc. Toshiba HD-A2 - 229.98 Shipped from Amazon
Det är billigt, går det att beställa och få hemskickat till Sverige står ju bara att det går att beställa inom USA. Det är ju cirka 1500:-. Var ligger problemet? Tullavgift, garanti osv.? Är inne på att köpa en DVD spelare men HD DVD är kanske värt att satsa på till nya plasman Samsung 42 Q97, fast den stödker inte 1080p men i. Skulle verkligen se hur HD material ser ut på TV'n. Är redan nöjd med Digital TV, undrar hur det ser ur med HD DVD

inkl strömomvandlare o frakt det är grymt pris..

Toshiba confirms audio bit stream upgrade
Rumors circulated that Toshiba would not upgrade its 2nd generation top model, the XA2, to support bit stream audio over HDMI, forcing consumers to buy their 3rd generation player that support this.
Bit stream audio over HDMI allows for external decoding of HD audio codecs.
This is not true. Toshiba confirmed to DVDTOWN.com that they indeed are working on a firmware upgrade that will allow bit stream audio over HDMI on the XA2. The date of release is still not decided upon, but they promised to let us know.
They also confirmed that the new models, A30 and A35, are shipping right now to retailers and should be in stock or come in stock very soon.
The A3 will follow in early November.

Det verkar omöjligt att få till en firmwareuppdatering på sin A2 när man bor i Europa. Är det någon som har en lösning på detta?

Min HD-XA2 är ur synk. Jag kan ändra synkinställningarna på min förstärkare men ljudet hoppar ändå ur synk efter ett tag. Vad gör jag för fel?. Det kan väl inte ha med strömmen att göra?. Jag använder en gammal stömomvandlare som jag köpte 1992 till min Laserdisc. Behöver jag något med lite mera "kräm"?. För övrigt så trodde jag att det skulle gå att få bit stream HDMI tills jag läste denna tråd. Vilken idiot.

Jag har uppdaterat min gamla HD-A2 ända sedan jag köpte den fram till senaste firmware utan problem.
Den har inga problem att göra det från Europa... Om de inte ändrat det nyligen....
Har köpt en HD-A35 nu som uppgraderade fint till 1.1...

Den har inga problem att göra det från Europa... Om de inte ändrat det nyligen....
Har köpt en HD-A35 nu som uppgraderade fint till 1.1...
Skulle du kunna säga om A35:an har en tystare fläkt än tidigare generationerna???
Jag stör mig en smula på E1:ans fläkt och har ändå tänkt byta....frågan är bara till vad.
Om E35:an är tystare så blir det nog en sån, annars blir det en EX1:a nu.

Jag har försökt över nätet med WLAN och med bränd CD men inget funkar.

We were wondering how well HD DVD was doing with those new price cuts, and now here's Video Business with the answer: according to sources at retailers, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Circuit City -- among others -- were able to move 90,000 stand-alone HD DVD players this weekend.

First, go into the internet section of the Setup menu (Ethernet --> DHCP) and do the following:
1) Turn DHCP to ON
2) Turn DNS to ON
3) Move cursor to highlight the Confirm button in Yellow and press OK
Exit out of the setup menu and remove any disc that may be in the HD DVD player.
Turn off the power and then turn it back on. You should then be able to update to the latest firmware via the Setup menu (General --> Maintenance --> Update) and then following the on-screen instructions.
The following events may interrupt the firmware update process and cause the player to malfunction.
DO NOT unplug the power cord during the firmware update process
Avoid loss or interruption of power during the firmware update process
DO NOT press the power button on the unit during the firmware update process
The good thing about connecting your player to the internet is that you'll also be able to take advantage of all the web-enabled extras on an increasing number of HD DVD titles.
Full 1080p/24Hz support for both HD DVD and standard DVD (HD-A20 and HD-XA2 only; 1080p/24 HDTV required)
Firmware 2.5 update notes:

Fick min HD-A2 i dagarna och hade inga problem att se Matrix, som var den första filmen jag stoppade i den. Men sen när jag såg Fearless (combo) så fuckade ljudet upp totalt i sista scenen. Ljudspår mandarin, eng sub. Startade om scenen 2-3ggr men samma resultat på samma ställe. Sen testade jag med eng. ljudspår och då fungerade det utmärkt. Gick då tillbaka till Mandarin och snabbspola fram och tillbaka några ggr och hade då inga problem. Men sen när jag tänkte se Matrix Reloaded så får jag meddelandet. "This disc is not in dvd format. Cannot play the disc". Doh!, klart den inte är i dvd-format. Har ju ffs köpt en hd dvd-spelare.
Det här meddelandet fick jag på alla hd dvds jag stoppade i maskinen, men efter att ha dragit ut strömmen, kört initialize etc, så kunde den spela hd dvd igen. Kanske har blivit ngt i spelarens minnesbuffer som legat kvar sen jag hållt på och snabbspola fram och tillbaka. Blev lite orolig där. Aja, ville bara skriva av mig =)

Nepp, inte gjort det än. Tror det är 1.3 just nu. Men fick den som sagt att spela hd dvds igen så jag väntar om/tills den börjar krångla igen.Har du uppdaterat firmware , till ovan nämnda 2.7??
Att spelaren är lite buggig annars är väldigt vanligt..

Det verkar som efter firmware 2.5 och uppåt så fungerar HD-A2s fw med HD-E1 och vice versa. Kan inte prova detta själv då jag har fw2.7. Men det ser ut som folk har lyckats uppgradera deras am. A2s med HD-E1s fw. Döp om .prg-filen till ISO och bränn den som en image och sen uppgradera spelaren som vanligt. Detta ska ge spelaren PAL-stöd och att den kan spela upp reg.2-filmer.

During our objective testing of the XA2 for HD DVD playback, I used a variety of test material, including our custom HD DVD test disc, Silicon Optix's HD DVD Benchmark disc, and the new Digital Video Essentials HD DVD. The XA2 did a great job on the de-interlacing side as I mentioned before, and a good job on the core video tests.
The XA2 uses the NEC decoder chip for its HD DVD decoding. This is the same solution used in the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on. My biggest complaint with this chip is the presence of the chroma upsampling error (CUE) that we fought so hard to eliminate in the DVD format. This results from improper upsampling of the native 4:2:0 chroma information that is encoded on the disc to 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 (whichever the player decides to convert to). Toshiba compensates for this by using the chroma filter technology in the Reon processor. While this does hide the issue, it does not solve it completely. We could still see some slight striping in the chroma information. This filtering also hurts chroma resolution overall and limits the full potential of detail in color with this player. Luckily, Toshiba resolved this issue with the newest firmware, and the decoder now passes the full chroma resolution of the discs.
The XA2 also does a great job with our core video tests. The player is not cropping any pixels from the active image, delivering the full 1920x1080 resolution to the end display device. Y/C delay is also not an issue, allowing for a crisp image devoid of the ringing that this may cause (think of it as a similarity to the convergence issues you may have had with older CRT based displays). This player also retains the full dynamic range of the luma signal and does not clip head and toe room. This was a problem with the first generation players that was eventually resolved with a firmware update.
Sitting Back and Watching the Movies
After all the testing was done and I had put the player through its paces with some of the material I had problems with previously, I sat down to enjoy watching the latest HD DVD releases over the course of a few weeks. I have the XA2 connected to my SSP via HDMI and don't rely on any other connections, so my experiences are based on the HDMI output.
I must say this is what I was expecting from the first generation players of this format. The XA2 consistently delivers a next generation experience that makes SD DVD an unacceptable alternative. HD DVD offers a video image that is second to none, and I am constantly impressed with the software that I get in for review.
During the last month or so I've gone back into my HD DVD library to revisit some of my favorites and see how they do on this new player. Universal's Miami Vice has become one of my favorite HD DVD movies. The picture quality on this disc is nothing short of stunning most of the time, and the soundtrack is an experience.
I am also extremely impressed with the care Universal put in to the U-Control features of this disc. The player literally rescales the active HD image when you bring up the interactive menu. I can only imagine how much processing power this takes, and the XA2 does it flawlessly. This disc also has some neat features such as Google Earth maps and pop-ups that talk about the planes and cars in the film.
Another personal favorite of mine is the previously mentioned Beside You In Time concert disc from my favorite group, Nine Inch Nails. Front man Trent Reznor has always pushed the envelope of delivery for both audio and video, and this release is no exception. The high resolution 24 bit Dolby TrueHD soundtrack is an amazing recording of a concert that I enjoyed immensely live and now can experience in even better quality at home. Mixed for 5.1 by Elliot Scheiner, who is one of my favorite mixers with DVD Audio and SACD content, the soundtrack on this disc is a testament to dynamic range and presence. Couple that with the XA2's ability to display this presentation at 1080p properly, and you have the best player on the market today to get the full experience of this concert for both audio and video.
Conclusions
While there is definitely room for improvement, the HD-XA2 is by far the preferred HD DVD player on the market today to get the most out of the HD DVD format. Most of the frustrations and shortcomings of Toshiba's first generation offerings are gone, and the video and audio performance are excellent. Personally, I think that the HD-XA2 should have been Toshiba's initial offering, but hopefully this is a sign of things to come and we'll see even more refined players in the months to come.

1) 1.6 firmware (if you are already on a higher version you have to hex modify it to be able to downgrade)
3) region-free 2.5.1 firmware (hex modified so it appears as A2/A20/XA2 firmware to the player)

1) 1.6 firmware (if you are already on a higher version you have to hex modify it to be able to downgrade)
3) region-free 2.5.1 firmware (hex modified so it appears as A2/A20/XA2 firmware to the player)

Länk till er som har en amerikansk HD DVD och inte har kunnat ladda ned Nya mjukvaran (3.0) via ethernetporten.

Nu har jag läst lite om HD-A2 och har nu blivit väldigt förvirrad!
Enligt Prisjakt så är HDMI-versionen på spelaren 1.2a som släpptes 2005. Efter att ha läst om versionerna på wikipedia så kom stödet för DTS HD Master Audio och TrueHD till v.1.3 - hur går det här ihop?!

Jag har spelaren nu, och den har en HDMI-utgång och den används till bild för min del. Men hur är det med HD-ljudformaten? Kan de föras över genom optisk eller måste det vara hdmi?
