quote:In regards to Epson TW-100 vs. HS-10. To sum it up, they both do a very good job. But they also share about the same weaknesses:
Black level and fast pans are *not* perfect. They are very good, but not up to CRT levels yet.
Screendoor is not a problem with either of them, the Epson does seem to have a bit smoother picture up close(3 feet). (Probably due to the MLA (?).)
The Epson has the edge by far in terms of connectivity. Both VGA and DVI works flawlessly without any hassle, the HS-10 is picky and I guess people reading this thread have picked up on that.. Though with a ATI card and some work it puts up an impressive picture. I had thought that the Faroudja chip on the Epson would make interlaced pictures look a lot better with the Epson, but IMHO the difference is not large. The Sony does an impressive job, especially with good sources. (Like component DVD.)
In terms of brightness, they both are able to fill a grey 128" screen, which is darn impressive! The Sony has the edge if you use the Dynamic setting, but they are about equal when you use cinema/standard settings. Still not quite decided which of these settings give the best picture, I guess it also depends a lot on the source. (Cartoons look better with more punch.)
Phew, well, that was some of the initial experiences. I'll try to set up a A/B/C testing of the projectors in the area: BarcoData 800 (CRT), Epson TW-100 and my HS-10.
