Introduction

Gamescom in Cologne (Germany) is a new conference replacing Leipzig’s Games Convention and inheriting its status of biggest games trade show of Europe. Cologne has much better access and infrastructure than Leipzig, so this conference has a possibility to be even bigger than Games Convention ever was. Already more than 300 exhibitors registered (this year E3 expo has “only” 216, for example) with all big players and platform holders present. UPDATE: Holy fuck, updated numbers are 420! exhibitors from 30 countries. Is it biggest video game trade fair ever?


Schedule



The fun begins already at Monday, 17th with European Games Developers conference starting, featuring keynotes from David Cage (Quantic Dream) and Cevat Yerly (Crytek), as well as from Remedy, CCP and Gamesforge. The presentations from Peter Molyneux (Choice: The ultimate game mechanics) and Blitz Games (Games in Stereoscopic 3D) are also sure to attract attention.

The Gamescom starts officially only at 19th of August, but two big press conferences are scheduled to start one day earlier. First shots are fired by Electronic Arts and Sony Computer Entertainment:

Starting from Thursday, 20th August 2009, the exhibition is fully open for visitors. Take into account that there are many fesitivities planned outside of the exhibition halls, including gaming camps, cosplay world record attempt at Saturday, casemodding competition and parkour event, so visiting Cologne burn out your unprepared brains due to overload by extreme fun.

PS3 Slim kommer enligt Sony att finnas i butik första veckan i september och priset...299$, 299 Euro och 29980 yen=).
Så vart det alltså officiellt och enligt mig är detta nödvändigt om Sony ska vända trenden, spelar ingen roll hur bra hårdvara de har om folk inte kan eller vill betala vad den kostar. Det börjar helt klart ljusna för Sony i och med detta beslut, det är jag säker på. Om inte detta hjälper, hjälper nog inget.

Hur kommer detta funka för priserna i praktiken? Tvivlar starkt på att man kan gå in i närmaste butik i morgon och köpa en PS3 för under 3500 kr men jag har gärna fel=).

gamescon SCEE Press Conference RecapMore than 800 journalists and their laptops packed into E-Werk in Cologne, Germany before the start of gamescom to hear the latest announcements from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

A brand new PlayStation 3 topped the bill, as Kaz Hirai – President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. joined Andrew House – President and CEO of SCEE – on-stage. Two-thirds slimmer and lighter than the previous model, it features a 120GB Hard Disk Drive and will be available throughout Europe from September 1, 2009, at the attractive price of €299.

Staying with hardware, it was also revealed that, from November, PSP will be available in two new colours – Turquoise Green and Blossom Pink.

PlayStation Store will expand its range of downloadable content when the PlayStation Network video delivery service comes to the UK, France, Germany and Spain this November – the rest of Europe will follow in 2010. Partnerships with illustrious studios such as 20th Century Fox, Disney, Paramount Pictures and many more will ensure a stellar line-up of movies available to buy or rent at launch, on both PS3 and PSP, and in either SD or HD.

PSP owners can also look forward to a new section on PlayStation Store. The new Digital Comics service, announced on-stage by Ira Rubenstein of Marvel Entertainment, will deliver a regularly updated library of comics from Marvel and many other publishers in December 2009.

The digital reader – a downloadable application that allows users to read their comics – features an intuitive Autoflow system that highlights particular parts of a cell to mimic the way the eye moves across the page for a great reader experience on a small screen.

With all of this downloadable entertainment comes a new way to add funds to your PlayStation Network wallet. PlayStation Network Cards do just that and will be available next month in €20 and €50 denominations.

Yet another new category coming to PlayStation Store on October 1, 2009, is minis. It will contain a range of PSP games under 100MB in size that are quick to download and perfect for gaming on the go. Electronic Arts are supporting minis and more than 50 titles – including Tetris – will be available to download before the end of the year.

The number of people enjoying VidZone is set to grow – many more European countries will receive the service before the end of the year.

Quantic Dreams’ David Cage took to the stage to introduce a new Heavy Rain character. Recalling a traumatic moment in his own life where he and his wife momentarily lost their son while shopping, he unveiled Ethan – a young architect who lost his son in a tragic accident.

Är det bara jag som tycker att den nya PS3n är ganska ful? Jag hade hoppats på att den skulle se ut som bilderna som visats innan för ett år sen eller nåt, dem var möcke sexigare. Den här är grå och fyrkantig...

Är det någonting mer än en större hårddisk? Alltså kommer dem fasa ut den gamla så långt att de till och med kommer göra spel som bara fungerar på den, alá DSi?

Den på bilden några inlägg ovan är ful ja, sen när man ser den svarta (ser ut för mig iaf som att den på bilden ovan är silver) så tycker man att den är ok först. Sen växer den på dig mer och mer speciellt när man kollar på någon unboxing vid.

Så var det iaf för mig. Så nu är jag fett taggad.
