Meet the Venture SHD7000 HD DVD player
"Boy it sure took long enough, but finally, a company other then Toshiba is producing an HD DVD player. Sure, it might be made by the same company that produces those low-cost Walmart DVD players, but before you say anything, think back a few years. Remember when DVD players where a thing for AV geeks and gadget lovers, costing around $150 to $200 per player? Companies like Venture, APEX, and all those other random Chinese companies did what CE giants like Sony and Toshiba couldn't - get people to kick their VCRs to the curb with low-cost DVD players. We aren't saying those DVD players are still alive and kicking but those cheap units put a DVD player in every home across the country.
There aren't many details about the Venture SHD7000, besides it plays HD DVD movies. We are assuming it has the mandatory HD DVD requirements of persistent storage, network interface and HDi support but other then that, we have nothing. Hopefully when more details emerge, they will include a price of around $100 and a launch date that is sooner then later. Just when you thought the format wars where dying down, here come the Chinese. FYI - Venture is based out of Canada with a Chinese manufacturing partner, Alco."

Profiles
The BD-ROM specification defines four profiles of Blu-ray players. All video-based profiles are required to have a full implementation of BD-J.

This is the basic profile that all current Blu-ray players are based on. Players based on this profile are only required to have 64 KB (0.064 MB) of application data area storage.[2]
However all players in this category will be considered obsolete after July 2007, when profile 1.1 becomes mandatory, since they will be unable to handle all interactive features that new discs released after this date will contain. They will still however be able to play the main feature of the disc as they do now.

Profile 1.1 adds a secondary video decoder (for PIP), secondary audio (for commentary) and local storage of 256 MB. "During their TotalHD press conference at CES, Warner announced that New Line was working on the Lord of the Rings trilogy for both HD DVD and Blu-ray. While they did confirm that the titles were in the works, no details were given.
A source close to the matter gave us a few details of the upcoming release, these include:
Main feature will be a single DL disc on both HD DVD and Blu-ray. (no word if it will be a TotalHD disc)
The movies will be the Theatrical Versions of each film. Yes you heard it right.
Both discs will be encoded using VC1
These will be the first titles to use Dolby TrueHD 7.1 Audio *crosses fingers for 24bit*
Due to bandwidth constraints, as of now there will be no IME like features.
It's a real bummer that New Line is forcing us once again to double dip by releasing the theatrical versions, not that it was unexpected.

Han skriver ut den info han får, han har skrivit flera listor med filmer som senare blivit släppta, vissa kanske har blivit flyttade av olika anledningar, men största anledningen till att folk klagar på honom är att han gillar BD mer än HD DVD, trots att han äger båda. Typ som dig, fast tvärtom.
Och han är inte direkt tyst i HD DVD forumet, det sticker i ögonen på många.

Kika in historiken för The Departed. Känns som att HD DVD har snabba blippar där alla köper på samma gång typ och sen rasar det. Medans BD har en jämnare kurva över längre tid
Ser för övrigt ut som att det börjar komma nya datum för FOX filmerna, hoppas det kommer något officiellt snart.
"Mr. & Mrs. Smith with a release date of May 15th, and From Hell has is scheduled for May 29th."

Japp och det är synd att dessa personer inte får tillgång till så många BD exklusiva filmer, hoppas verkligen att försäljarna berättar det också när nån tjomme står och kikar i butikerna

"TrueHD is supported in both the HD DVD and competing Blu-ray Disc specification. While it is a mandatory codec for HD DVD, TrueHD is optional for BD-ROM. All HD DVD players are required to be capable of decoding TrueHD into a minimum of two channels of uncompressed audio, while BD players are not required to handle TrueHD at all. In both applications, TrueHD supports up to 8 discrete channels of 24 bit/96 kHz audio, at a maximum coded bitrate of 18 Mbit/s. The details of the bitstream differ between the two formats, due to the required presence of a AC-3 "core" bitstream in BD-ROM."
