Angående Dragon's Lair och BD-J vs. HDi så lyckades de ju iaf få klart Blu-ray-versionen i tid till skillnad från HD DVD-versionen: "Finally, if you don’t have a Blu-Ray player and have gone with HD-DVD as your HD platform of choice (silly you), you will be happy to know that an HD-DVD version is scheduled to be released later this year. Apparently, HDi - HD-DVD’s counterpart to BD-J - is a bit trickier to work with, and has caused a delay in what was originally planned to be a simultaneous release." http://www.hardcorew...ay-java-review/ Pratar vi sedan inkompatibilitet så ligger knappast HD DVD bättre till på den punkten då det finns flera titlar med uppspelningsproblem nu: Children of Men, The Good Sheppard, Discovery Atlas etc. Detta trots bara finns en enda tillverkare av HD DVD-spelare plus Xbox 360:n vilket borde göra testförfarandet enklare än för Blu-ray. Samsung looking to hasten BD Live implementation?
It's no secret that BD Live functionality hasn't been the standout feature that we had all hoped for, as a majority of the current players on shelves now don't even sport all the necessary equipment to fully take advantage, but it sounds like Samsung is hoping to change all that by getting serious with interactive niceties. In an admittedly poor translation of Korean, a recent report outlines Samsung's desire to "commercialize" BD Live "by the end of the year," aiming to get downloadable content and internet-enabled services to the end user before we all forget about this once hyped technology. Apparently, the firm is already in talks with major Blu-ray disc producers such as Sony, Disney, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and Paramount, and there was also hints that broadening the appeal of BD Live could indeed help Blu-ray gain an edge over HD DVD. Now we just hope that its second-generation lineup doesn't do something awkward like not offer up full support of BD Live, alright Sammy? Källa: engadgethd.com Postad 12 April 2007 - 18:18
Samsung to start BD-Live service by end of year
"The company is planning to start the BD Live service at the end of this year and discussing the development of services with Hollywood film productions of Blu-ray, such as Sony, Walt Disney, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros and Paramount." http://english.etnew...id=200703270001 Kul att se att dom är lite aktiv bakom BD iaf Postad 12 April 2007 - 18:36
Hej grabbar
Toshiba Launches 1080p HD-DVD Player "Washington, D.C. (April 12, 2007) -- Toshiba yesterday said it has begun shipping its new HD-DVD player that can display high-def movies in 1080p. The HD-A20 retails for $499, which is roughly $500 less than the suggested retail price for rival Blu-ray players. (Note: Both Blu-ray and HD-DVD players can be purchased for less online.) However, until this year, Toshiba players have not been able to display HDTV DVDs in 1080p. The company hopes the lower price on its new 1080p player will appeal to high-def enthusiasts who are demanding the highest resolution possible. (Toshiba's first 1080p player, the HD-XA2, which began shipping in January, costs $799.) Sony says it will introduce a Blu-ray player for $599 this summer. Blu-ray players can display 1080p HD video. The Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD high-def format war will soon enter its second year with no clear winner in view. However, Blu-ray titles have outsold HD-DVD discs by a 2-1 margin since January, according to Nielsen Video Scan. The development has led some to speculate that Blu-ray could be pulling away. But Toshiba said yesterday that more than 70 new HD-DVD titles will be released between now and July, which will fuel greater interest in the format. Toshiba's HD-A20 can also "upconvert" standard DVDs to near HD quality using a HDMI cable." Postad 12 April 2007 - 19:53
Sony Pulls the Plug on 20GB PlayStation 3
The least expensive way to currently buy into the Blu-ray format is soon to say Sayonara, with Sony announcing plans to discontinue production of the 20GB PlayStation 3 to focus on selling its higher-capacity 60GB cousin. Though the 20GB model retails for $499 -- approximately $100 less than the 60GB PS3 -- Sony says early adopters have favored the pricier version by a ratio of nearly 9 to 1. "Initial retail demand in North America was upwards of 90% in favor of the 60GB SKU, so we manufactured and shipped-in accordingly," Sony spokesman Dave Karraker told Video Business. "Based on retailer and customer feedback, we have decided to focus our current efforts on the more popular 60GB model." In addition to its larger internal hard drive, the 60GB PS3 boasts extra storage media slots, as well as a built-in wi-fi port not found in the 20GB console. While retailers will be allowed to sell-through any remaining stock of the 20GB model, the company said no new orders will be fulfilled. On the surface, Sony's move may seem a bit surprising, at least in light of continued criticism that Blu-ray hardware prices are too high for the average consumer. When the PS3 launched in late November, the $499 unit became the cheapest way for buyers to experience the Blu-ray format -- with this move, that entry point is now $100 higher. What, if any, long-term affect Sony's decision to discontinue the 20GB PlayStation 3 may have on the next-gen format war remains to be seen. But for now, retailers don't seem terribly worried. "In consumers' minds, there is no real gap between the $499 and the $599," said Jayme Kruse-Cordie, Hastings director of video and interactive gaming. "After $499, the price sensitivity is gone." Tech specs include the usual 1080p video transfers and uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround tracks. Extras will replicate the existing, feature-packed standard-def DVD versions. And exclusive to the Blu-ray releases will be two BD-Java bonuses. 'The Curse of the Black Pearl' will include "Scoundrels of the Sea," an interactive in-movie feature that presents facts on-screen about the legends and lore of pirates. 'Dead Man's Chest' will include an "exciting" new Java feature called "Liar's Dice," a single-player game shot in live-action HD video. Disney has set a $34.95 suggested list price for each of the 'Pirates' flicks. Full specs for both titles have now been added to our Blu-ray Release Schedule under May 22" Disney's 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Booty to Include Two Discs, BD-Java Features Redigerat av diabolo, 13 April 2007 - 02:09. Samsung Electronics to Release DUO HD Player
"Seoul, Apr 13 (Korea Newswire)-- Samsung Electronics Co., LTD., a leader in consumer electronics and digital media technologies, and the first company to introduce a Blu-ray disc player will introduce a dual format High-Definition (HD) optical disc player in time for the holidays. Samsung’s Duo HD player (BD-UP5000) will fully support both HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats and their interactive technologies, HDi and BD-Java. With the Duo HD consumers can enjoy additional studio content such as trailers, director’s comments, more elaborate interactive menus and behind the scene footage. The new Duo HD joins Samsung’s next generation DVD line-up which includes Samsung’s second generation Blu-ray player available at retail this month. Together, these two models offer the consumer a strong line of High-Definition players to match Samsung’s award winning, and best selling, line of HDTVs. "We welcome Samsung's Duo HD player as another solution in the marketplace that will help reduce consumer confusion and buyer hesitancy towards HD media," said Ron Sanders, President of Warner Home Video. "This is an innovative product that can move us closer to mainstream consumer adoption of HD technologies." “We are very pleased to announce the upcoming release of our Duo HD player. Consumers are hungry for more HD content but are currently confused about competing formats. Samsung’s Duo HD player will allow consumers access to every HD movie title available regardless of the authoring format. Samsung is committed to making life simpler through technology and will market next generation DVD products which will satisfy the consumer and market requirement. This is a big win for the consumer. As a member of the DVD Forum and contributor to the DVD Industry, we recognize that both HD-DVD and BD formats have merits. As such, we have decided to market a dual format player. Personligen så kommer jag nog köpa mig LG's Super Multi Blue Player som läser båda formaten, för att kunna se alla filmer, sen om ett format vinner så gör ju inte det något, eftersom den läser båda. Då gäller det bara att företagen som låg bakom det förlorande formatet att de går över till det andra, och inte blir elaka och säger att DVD är framtiden eller något sådant korkat
