Det jag menar är att HD DVD antagligen blir en valbar "option" som köparna kan välja till laptopen. Som standard sitter nog en vanlig DVD-brännare i. Jag tvekar på att Toshiba tvingar på sina kunder en dyr HD DVD-spelare när de inte vill ha en sådan.

Eftersom PS3 har sålts i ca 4 miljoner exemplar hittills och eftersom Toshibas laptops från och med 2008 ska ha HD DVD och eftersom Toshiba varje år säljer ca 9 miljoner laptops...

1) Är det någon som tror att Toshibas laptops kommer bli den vanligaste HD-spelaren redan 2008 eller 2009?
2) Är det någon som vet ifall alla Toshibas laptops kommer ha HDMI så att man kan koppla dem till TV eller receiver?

Du brukar inte åka tåg eller liknande så ofta antar jag? Det finns ett stort antal som ser på film på tåget, flygplatsen m.m. Jag åker tåg till jobbet varje dag och det är alltid ett flertal som sitter där med sina laptops och ser på film.

Det jag menar är att HD DVD antagligen blir en valbar "option" som köparna kan välja till laptopen. Som standard sitter nog en vanlig DVD-brännare i. Jag tvekar på att Toshiba tvingar på sina kunder en dyr HD DVD-spelare när de inte vill ha en sådan.

Utan att veta, tillverkar/beställer man flere miljoner HD-DVD enheter så blir priset förmodligen bara
någon tia dyrare än för DVD spelarna.

Det är ju ganska optimistiskt att tro att _alla_ Toshibas laptops kommer att utrustas med HD DVD

Sources tell me that Paramount, which has been publishing on both Blu-ray and HD DVD, will receive $50 million to continue publishing in HD. "The deal is that anything they release on Blu-ray, they'll have to release in HD," a source told me. In addition, the studio will give the HD format exclusivity for some older titles in its catalogue.

"Based on conversations with multiple sources, we believe that Paramount is set to make the vast majority of its catalog available exclusively in the HD-DVD format (unclear whether that includes titles from its sister studio DreamWorks).

Ser massor med film på laptop, på stugan en regnig sommar kväll (såna finns det gott om ) på tåg, på båtresan mm.

Paramount removes remaining BD fall slate..

The way the press release was written seemed to indicate the exclusive titles to follow 'Blades of Glory' would be 'Shrek the Third' and 'Transformers.' Unfortunately for Blu-ray fans, that's not the case.

This morning, Paramount updated their press website with a purge of all remaining Blu-ray Disc titles. The following titles were included in the purge and should now be considered HD DVD exclusive.

Själv kör jag XviD HD och MKV på min Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop, som är kopplad till plasman med en DVI--->HDMI-kabel. Kanonbild!

Jo det röda va kul, spanade dock ännu längre och hade glömt bort det tredje promo som kördes där Kevin Collins under CES 2007 visade demo av HDi, PiP, Favorite Scenes som skickades till en annan registrerad HD DVD kompis via Download Center och sedan kunde ladda upp det han just gjorde.

Toshiba cuts HD-E1 player price in UK

Toshiba's HD DVD player price cuts in the US last month, and speculation that the UK might eventually be included, the company has done the decent thing and knock a whopping £200 off the HD-E1 entry level player.
OK, so the price had already been cut back in March, but the new £249.99 price tag is not to be sniffed at, unless you've already bought Tosh's first European HD DVD player.

It's hardly a surprise, though, given that their third generation HD-EP10 was to hit the market at the same price as the HD-E1 first sold for, and can now be had for around £350.

tänkte på en intressant grej hela den videon lyser ju Uni förstås och nu även Paramount, men take the red pill grejen där Morpheus håller ett rött piller i ena handen och ett blått i andra och man får se det röda bli valt, det lyser ju ta mig fanken WB lång väg.

Varför skulle Warner låta HDDVD göra en ny oficiell video med detta inehåll om de överhuvud taget tänkte ge ut Matrix på BD än mer fortsätta vara neutrala, jaja bara en tanke??!!

överge släpp av vanliga DVD skivor och släppa Combos till ett pris på DVD nivå, så att de utan HDDVD skulle vara framtidssäkra vid ev köp av en spelare..

Ja gillar inte combos personligen, men skulle kunna tänka mig o köpa dem om det fick en positiv effekt för HDDVD, bara dem som sagt ligger i samma pris som en enkel HDDVD gör nu, vill inte betala mer för nåt ja inte behöver så att säga..

Fler och fler tillverkare ser nu fördelen av att ha hd-spelare som klarar båda hd-formaten. Buffalo släpper nu en spelare i Japan som klarar både hd-dvd och blu-ray. Spelaren kostar cirka 3 000 kronor.

Först kom LG med sin kombospelare som klarar att spela upp både hd-dvd och blu-ray. På IFA-mässan, som startar i Berlin denna vecka, kommer Samsung att visa upp sin kombospelare för att ta upp konkurrensen med sina koreanska konkurrenter. En spelare som klarar båda hd-formaten underlättar för konsumenten och det är konstigt att inte fler har insett fördelen att ha en spelare som klarar båda formaten. LG:s spelare är dock lite dyr, närmare 11 000 kronor får du betala för en kombospelare, något som förstås avskräcker en del konsumenter.


Nu finns det dock ytterligare en tillverkare som vill konkurrera med de stora elefanterna, företaget heter Buffalo och kommer inom en månad att i Japan släppa en spelare som klarar båda hd-formaten. Modellen heter GGC-H20N och kommer att kosta, översatt i svenska pengar, cirka 3 000 kronor när den säljs i Japan. Med andra ord klart mycket mindre än vad LG tar för sin spelare.


Självklart kan spelaren också spela upp cd och dvd-skivor. Spelaren kan dessutom bränna blu-ray skivor, men inte hd-dvd skivor. Prylportalen gillar idén och lovar att hålla utkik efter Buffalo på IFA-mässan.

om det är sant så har dom iallfall mkt pengar på HD DVD sidan att tugga ifrån.

Det finns många alternativ nu för HD DVD att snabbt vinna kriget men jag hade hoppats på att dom inte skulle behöva andvända sig av lika fula metoder som sony gjort.

Om bara alla studios la ner med formatbojkott och lät folket avgöra vilket format dom ville köpa så vore det mkt trevligare för oss alla.

om det är sant så har dom iallfall mkt pengar på HD DVD sidan att tugga ifrån.

Det som står i första posten stämmer inte allls i varje fall. Toshiba trodde i somras att de skulle tjäna ungefär 340 miljoner USD första halvåret så det är ju en bit ifrån de 57 miljader dollar som det står i första posten...

Lär få svårare under hösten då Venture kommer

Men ändå, 8 filmer, inte illa

Märk väl att vi inte vet varken priset eller kvalitén på Venturen......Sätter nog hellre en peng på Toshiban i alla fall........Dessutom är ju Toshiban snyggare i TV-bänken! Men visst för "Svensson" är det ju precis sådana här spelare som vi behöver, både för hd-dvd och "det där andra formatet" som jag knappt törs nämna i det här sällskapet

Det är först när de här billiga spelarna finns ute på markanaden som högupplöst filmtittande kommer att slå igenom för den breda publiken tror jag.....Detta tjänar alla på oavsett format, för det vi alla har gemensamt oberoende av vad vi har för hårdvara hemma är ju att vi vill att man ska fasa ut dvd-filmerna så fort som möjligt. Ju fler som köper "riktiga" spelare desto snabbare kommer det att gå och bolagen kommer att släppa ännu mer i hd och till lägre priser (även om naturligtvis dvd som format kommer att finnas i många år till).

Universal Launches New HD DVD Website

Further pushing the boundaries of HD DVD interactivity, Universal has launched a new consumer high-def promotional and support web site promising exclusive web-enabled content.

The studio-created site, dubbed Universal Studios Home Entertainment Hi Def, is designed to be an extensive consumer portal for all things Universal HD DVD. Among the site's offerings are a FAQ covering the format's current interactive features, extensive technical support (including connection issues and a breakdown of common software and hardware error codes) and previews of upcoming releases.

But most exciting are a number of site sections still under construction, which seem to suggest that the studio is planning to use the site as a launching pad for future web-enabled content. Labeled "Coming Soon" are several features, including something called "U-Shop," which apparently will allow consumers to buy exclusive products while they watch the movie; "Best Buddies," where fans will be able to send friends pointers to favorite clips on a given an HD DVD title via the studio's "MyScenes" feature; and a dedicated Download Center.

Universal is also promising that additional content will be made available only to registered users of the site, including trailers and other exclusive material.

Price is King

HD war intensifies with $199 HD DVD player

Cut-price kit is going to be key in battle with "Blöj-röj"


The announcement of a new HD DVD player from Venturer Electronics wouldn't ordinarily be news. But the fact that Venturer's forthcoming SHD7000 player may have a sub-$200 price tag slapped on it definitely is.

There's no official mention of pricing on the Venturer website. But VideoBusiness.com is reporting that the Chinese-built SHD7000 will sell for $199. This, says the VB article, would make the SHD7000 "the cheapest stand-alone HD DVD player available today."

Entry-level HD DVD
Of course, judging by the specs of the player this is an entry-level machine. It can only output 1080i, for example, rather than the full fat 1080p HD video squirted out by Toshiba's popular HD-XE1.

Nevertheless, the SHD7000 features HDMI and Ethernet ports, Dolby TrueHD support and, like other HD DVD players, can moonlight as a capable DVD upscaler. For $199 it's a bargain.

The SHD7000 might be making headlines, but the machine itself isn't really important. What is exciting is what the arrival of the SHD7000 means. It means that the HD war (with a little help from Chinese mass-production) is driving down the cost of high-def products. It means we're getting to a point where HD DVD is becoming a more attractive option than Blu-ray because it's half the price.

Toshiba's HD-XE1, for example, had a suggested retail price of £650 when it launched back in March/April. You can now buy it online for just over £400. In contrast, Panasonic's DMP-BD10A Blu-ray player had a list price of around £1,200 at launch and it now sells for £800-£900 via web stores.

Is Blu-ray still king?
Yes, Blu-ray still enjoys strong support on the content side. But the HD DVD group's recent $150 million deal to bag Paramount and Dreamworks exclusivity is an indication that the HD battle still can't be called.

An HD DVD player for $199 is surely a no-brainer? With this strategy, the availability of cut-price HD DVD players will boost hardware sales; more hardware sales will trigger software sales; and more software sales might, just might persuade other content producers that HD DVD is a format worth supporting.

Will we get the SHD7000 in the UK? Unlikely. The Venturer website says that the company is "focused on making the latest technologies affordable to North American consumers." Shame.

Alan Bell discusses why HD DVD is his studio's exclusive high-definition format.


In a surprise move, Paramount and DreamWorks Animation announced this week that they would align themselves exclusively with the HD DVD high-definition format.

Paramount has been getting experience with publishing titles in both formats for the last year. We've had a hands-on ability to see how these formats work in practice. And after some hands-on analysis, we decided that HD DVD was the format we wanted to support.

For another thing, HD DVD came out of the DVD Forum. The DVD Forum is very experienced at developing and managing specs. [HD DVD] was launched in a very stable way

There's no compromise on the quality. We've found that 95 percent of movies are less than 2.25 hours long. With a disc whose capacity is 3 or 4 hours, you can put a fair amount of bonus material on that disc as well. So 30GB with the option to add another disc is fine, from our point of view.

A 45GB disc is under development. [Editors' note: This disc has been in development for two years; at this time, its unclear whether current players will be able to read this disc once it becomes part of the HD DVD spec.] Secondly, compression will become more effective. The number of minutes you get on a disc depends upon how much you can compress a movie. As we gain experience with the new codecs, the ability to compress at high quality will be improved. Capacity is a factor, but it's not an overriding factor. In the grand scheme of things, the better proposition for consumers in our view, and for our business needs, is HD DVD.

Interactivity is an important part of why you would move up from DVD. Yes, [high-def] has a great picture, but is that enough? Connectivity is something that studios will grow into, and it's something that we believe studios will grow into. We're thinking about [having media servers to provide extra content via the Internet], but those kinds of investments cost money. The motivation to do them grows as the installed base grows. If we see there's a sufficiently large installed base to justify the cost of the server, we'll do it. Right now we're concentrating on getting a great picture out, and great interactivity.

At this moment in time, it's an indefinite commitment. The core of this announcement comes from our experience, and what our consumers are looking for. We hope this will influence consumers' choices.
