Mitsubishi planning 3D Blu-ray player for early 2008

Most of us were pretty impressed by the demo, which included clips from movies, commercials, and sporting events. There was real depth to the 3D and you got that whole feeling of things poking out at you from the screen. All the demo material had been shot in 3D, but the kicker to the whole presentation was that Mitsubishi apparently has a Blu-ray player in its labs that can convert existing 2D movies into 3D on the fly. Better yet, according to company reps, it may be available early next year.

Mitsubishi hinted that it was in discussions with one game console manufacturer to integrate the 3D technology into the system. The Wii's not capable of such feats and Microsoft's in the HD DVD camp, so one would have to assume it's Sony and the PS3.

Alienware, never afraid of spec'ing its machines just a little bit ahead of the curve, has just introduced 4x Blu-ray drives into its Area-51 7500, Aurora 7500, Area-51 ALX, and Aurora ALX desktops, making the systems the first in the industry (or so they claim) to carry the faster drives. The new additions to the PCs will offer a significant performance increase in reading and writing Blu-ray discs (a 100 percent increase, in case you're not doing the math), which should make burning those massive discs just slightly more tolerable. Of course, the whole shebang is backward-compatible with CD and DVD discs, per typical Blu-ray spec, and will set you back an additional $600. Available right now.

Assuming everything falls in place as this insider expects, it will be the biggest shot fired thus far in this format war. If this contract can be secured by the BDA this will be the end of this format war, no doubt.

National Lampoon's Vacation is a Warner movie. He watched it at home instead of the theatre so we know it was on packaged media. It was 'exclusively' his to watch meaning he could only watch it on the player he has. He saved $199 so that means he didn't have to buy an HDDVD player at the supposed Xmas price of $199

We actually just saw Steve a few weeks ago at our EMA event in Vegas (you can see pictures here). He's a good guy and we wish him well in his future endeavors.

Problemet är väl att alla "billiga" HD-DVDspelare klarar inte att uppkonvertera vanliga DVD'er till 720p/1080i/1080p, det är bara mig veterligen Toshiba HD-XE1 som klarar det. och den rackarn kostar över 7000 spänn i europa!

tja, jag gjorde en sökning på prisjakt på HD-DVD spelare som kunde skala upp DVD till 720p/1080i/1080p, och den enda som kom fram var XE1'anm de andra hade ingen uppskalning av DVD stog det...

Jag tog för givet att faktainformationen som stog på prisjakt var sann...

Det stämmer alltså inte?
