'Top Gun' Japanese HD DVD Features Discrete 6.1 Lossless Audio

Paramount Pictures (Japan) will be releasing Top Gun on HD DVD, this October 26. Fans of Top Gun will be glad to know that the Japanese HD DVD release contains the Dolby TrueHD 6.1 (English) lossless and Dolby Digital-Plus 6.1 (English & Japanese) audio tracks. DTS-ES 6.1 (English) audio option is also provided. The disc contains English & Japanese subtitle options. It is expected to be priced at 4,935 Yen (inclusive of relevant taxes).

An audio commentary (which I suspect is the one ported over from the Special Collector's Edition DVD) could also be expected on this release, pending further confirmation.

Based on the current information that I have, it seems that the North American HD DVD/BD release of Top Gun is missing out on these features. The North American HD DVD/BD release contains 5.1-channel audio whether uncompressed, lossless or lossy - Dolby Digital (Plus) - and does not have any of the DVD special features ported over.

Once we have more of the finalised details, they will be posted up on this blog. Do contribute if you've more official information...

Hayden Panettiere: Oh gosh, you get to see up close and personal how beautiful Sendhil (Ramamurthy) really is. (Laughs) I think the blood and the guts would look even more... uhhhh... oh my gosh, I can't imagine. I think there's so many special effects. There's so many really cool shots in the backgrounds, in just the scenery, that is incredible. New York City and just those skylines. We did some blue screen too and I'm sure that looks insane. I could see the blood and the guts and hurling myself off the gravel towel being pretty cool to watch in HDDVD

Disappointed and anxious that there was still no news about Battlestar Galactica (2004): Season One HD DVD which was heavily rumored to be released in September?

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has now confirmed that the Battlestar Galactica (2004): Season One will be available on 6-disc HD DVD set from December 4. The high-definition version of this TV series is available to own only on HD DVD. It is a non-combo HD DVD set and has a suggested price tag of $99.98 SRP.

Each episode of the series will be presented in 1080p High Definition Widescreen 1.78:1 video with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 (English) and Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 (English) audio options. Only English [SDH] and French subtitle options are included.

Verkar som filmer som först kommer på Blu ray och sen till HD DVD görs i vissa fall i sämre kvalitée, precis som när HD DVD filmer görs till Blu Ray utgåvan så blir Blu Rays lite sämre ibland

Alas, all things are not equal between this HD DVD import and its US-released Blu-ray counterpart. While Buena Vista delivered a terrific uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround track (48 kHz/24-bit/6.9mpbs) for 'The Prestige' on Blu-ray, it gets demoted here to a measly 640kbps Dolby Digital-Plus track, and it just can't compete.

Det var ju ej Warner som gav ut Prestige i U.S, men blev förvånad att det endast
är 640 kbps när filmen lät så bra som den gjorde, är ju mest dialog i den filmen så ger inte mkt för den ljudrescensionen.. Worth a look skriver Bracke lol ja den är väl inte recomended med 5 i bild kvalle och som BD only i staterna

I wasn't quite as disappointed with the English Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 soundtrack
as I was with the VC-1 encoded picture.

men han gav 1 i betyg, jo den är säkert värd 1 i betyg på en 10 skala,
där tappa han all trovärdighet, hade ändå tänkt köpa denna
då jag sålt av min DVD utgåva, nu övertygar detta mig ännu mera
bara för att själv jämföra,,

övriga betyg har varit 2 på PQ o SQ på highdef och 2,5 på bägge från
hometheaterspot..

Nån annan som tänkt köpa dena el??

tycker personligen att det är uselt av Uni att släppa denna
på detta viset utan remastering innan..

'Freedom: 2' Bound for HD DVD this September

Bandai Visual has announced it will bring the second volume in its popular anime series 'Freedom' to high-def this fall as a HD DVD/DVD twin-format release.

Due on September 25, 'Freedom: 2' will mirror the "twin format" configuration of 'Freedom: 1,' which Bandai first released stateside back in June. Not to be confused with double-sided HD DVD/DVD combo discs, twin-format discs can contain up to three layers of recorded content on a single-sided disc. Like 'Freedom: 1,' 'Freedom: 2' will use two of those layers -- a 15GB HD DVD layer, and a 4.6GB standard-def DVD layer.

Tech specs for 'Freedom: 2' include a 1080p/VC-1 encoded transfer at 1.78:1 widescreen, and Japanese tracks in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and PCM 2.0 Stereo (optional English subtitles are also provided).

Henke, jag kom precis från en dyr dyr dyr semester, så har jag stoppat undan en liten slant till den nya Denon receivern... vill få ut ren o fin HD ljud genom HDMI så inte mycket pengar kvar... Vilken dag är det ni ska handla på, kanske kan handla nånting Kan ju inte låta bli...Men jag är kräsen... Många filmer är inte värda att gå till HD DVD så tidigt, enligt mig...

'The Omega Man' Headed to HD DVD

Warner Home Video has announced it will bring the classic Charleton Heston thriller 'The Omega Man' to B-ray and HD DVD this fall.

Timed to support the December theatrical debut of the Will Smith remake 'I Am Legend,' Warner will unleash the original 'The Omega Man' on both next-gen formats November 27.

Specs are bare bones, with only a 1080p transfer and the film's original English Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono audio. Mirroring the standard-def DVD version released back in 1999, there won't be a single supplement included.

Warner has set a $28.99 list price for the B-ray and HD DVD versions.

Jag såg idag att GAME har börjat sälja HD DVD filmer (Blu-ray för den delen med). Filmerna kostade 249:-/st och utbudet var ganska begränsat.

Igår när jag kom hem från semestern låg "Enemy at the gates" (Stalingrad = Fransk titel) innanför dörren.

Slängde snabbt in den i XE1:an . Bilden var riktigt bra. Fina färger. Skarp. Djup och helt brusfri svärta. Däremot syntes det ganska mycket brus i ljusa partier, tex rök. Ljudet var riktigt grymt.

Rekomenderar den verkligen. Finns att köpa på Amazon.fr.
