Bethesda’s Todd Howard on future Switch support – “we’ll certainly be doing more things there”

Before Switch was announced, no one could have predicted how much support Bethesda would be giving the system. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim got things started late last year, followed by Doom. The Wolfenstein II also just launched on the platform today. Fallout Shelter was released earlier in the month, and The Elder Scrolls: Legends is planned for later this year.

Gamereactor interviewed Bethesda’s Todd Howard at Gamelab this week. When asked if there’s interest in bringing over a mainline Fallout, he said:

“Well there’s definitely interest. It’s not something that we are exploring right now. We think Switch is a great platform – it was the first time we really worked closely with Nintendo on Skyrim – and really, really great experience and we’ll certainly be doing more things there in the future, but right now it’s not a mainline Fallout 4.”

Howard also shared his own personal thoughts on Switch:

“I love it. When Nintendo came to us, we were one of the first people that they showed the Switch to. So I got to play it very, very early and immediately felt, ‘This is unique. It’s not just another handheld, it’s also a console.’ And it’s very uniquely Nintendo. I think a lot of people sort of associated Nintendo with the Wii or the Wii U… But Nintendo’s main audience was always on the Game Boy or the DS. And them saying, ‘We’re going to do a full console-handheld’. And I love the controllers.

When it came out, we were there very early as developers, and at one hand we got lucky how popular the platform was, but we felt strongly it was going to be popular. I love Zelda. The Switch became the Zelda device when it came out, and Mario’s great and a lot of other games as well.”

Darius Cozmic Collection announced for Switch

Taito has announced Darius Cozmic Collection for Switch. The 5,200 yen standard edition of the side scrolling shoot’ em up collection will include four arcade entries in the series, while the 16,800 yen limited production special edition will add five console entries. Telltale Games announced The Walking Dead: The Final Season for Switch not too long ago. But if you haven’t played the previous seasons on other platforms, it might have less of an impact. Fans have therefore been hoping that the other titles would land on Switch as well.

Perhaps Telltale has been listening, as European retailer MediaMarkt is listing The Walking Dead Season 1 and 2 for Switch. In fact, the second listing even includes a boxart. This isn’t a confirmation, but it’s certainly a good sign that we’ll be getting more of The Walking Dead on Switch.

Both listings have an August 31 release date. Though even if the listings are trustworthy, that date could just be temporary.

Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy on Switch was the No.1 best-selling boxed game last week across EMEA. In the UK, although it was close, it was the Xbox One version that was No.1 - beating the Switch version by 250 copies. Meanwhile, across EMEA, the Xbox One boxed version only makes No.9.

Even when you include Xbox's digital sales (again, Nintendo does not share digital sales), Crash Bandicoot on Switch still reached No.3, while on Xbox One it was at No.6. So Switch had the best-selling version by a large margin, even though not all Switch sales are counted.

Out of the Top 20 boxed games across EMEA, 10 were Nintendo Switch games. Mario Tennis Aces is at No.3 (just behind The Crew 2), having been No.1 last week. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is No.5, while Minecraft: Switch Edition is at No.6, dropping three places week-on-week after its initial launch.

Panic Button certainly has their hands full with the Switch. It seems like big-name companies left and right are turning to the developer to have them port over their titles to Switch. Turns out there's even more games in the works than we know of.
In a Reddit AMA with Panic Button, the company is asked if they have any other Switch games in the works after Warframe. Panic Button simply replies by saying, "tons."

Today has been very busy if you’re a fan of physical Switch releases. Aside from Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time and Mutant Mudds Collection, a number of other titles will have boxed copies. These include Worms W.M.D., Knights of Pen and Paper, Knights of Pen and Paper II, Fairune Collection, Stereden Binary Stars, N++, and The Adventure Pals.

Most of these games are without a physical release date. However, we now know that Mutant Mudds Collection drops in August.
