HD DVD and Blu-ray releases on August 28th, 2007


And so it begins, not only is this the first week that the Blu-ray camp misses out on the first Paramount HD DVD exclusive Blades of Glory, but they don't have any titles to boot. We have however, heard of some people locating Blu-ray copies of Blades of Glory that haven't been successfully recalled , but they don't count none-the-less.

highdef??, enligt Bracke ska filmen ha Dolby True HD och enligt killen på hometheaterspot DD+ 1,5 mbps och detsamma står på baksidan av fodralet om man kollar Axel,mkt skumt..

Jag har inte handlat från amerikanska amazon på 4-5 år men på den tiden skickade de inte filmerna en och en utan tillsammans. Dessutom var deras priser inte speciellt bra så jag valde allt som oftast andra handlare. Dessutom brukar det inte vara lika lätt att få såpass stora firmor att skriva ner värdet på paketet så risken för tull och moms skall man nog inte bortse ifrån.

Om samma erbjudande gäller i england eller tyskland så blir det lite mer intressant tycker jag.

Amazon.com är ofta billiga med priser på $20 på de flesta filmer. Frakten är lite långsam dock. Nu har jag redan ett tjugotal av de där filmerna och de andra är jag inte så jätteintresserad av men annars hade jag beställt direkt. Jag har bara fått betala tull en gång från dem och då var det en fet beställning med planet earth och ett gäng till filmer. Några gånger har jag fått ca fem filmer utan problem, men det kanske var tur.

Early Details of Transformers On HD DVD?

Australia's online home video retailer EzyDVD has provided some early details of what to expect on the Transformers (2007) 2-Disc DVD. The HD DVD version will also be released in Australia the same day as the 2-Disc DVD, on November 1.

Bonus materials found on the 2-disc DVD is expected to be available on the HD DVD version. They include, but may not be limited to,

As these are early details provided by a retailer, we recommend that all readers take it with a pinch of salt.

Shot in High Definition in 2004 (and originally released on Standard DVD), 'American Journey: Volume 2 - Dreaming Nevada' is the latest in a growing number of indie next-gen releases targeted at early adopters starved for high-def eye candy. A scenic tour of Southern Nevada, the press materials promise the disc will "transport the viewer into a world of spectacular vistas of extraordinary beauty."

Due in stores October 2, 'Dreaming Nevada' will make its HD DVD debut in 1080i/VC-1 video and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround audio. Bonus features will include two different musical selections to choose from, a bonus clip including additional footage of Las Vegas, a "Map Movie" mode juxtaposing animated maps with clips, and an animated still gallery.

Retail price is set to be $19.98.

The Video: Sizing Up the Picture

'Dawn of the Dead' continues the trend, turning in a strong 1080p/VC-1 encode that looks much better than its DVD predeccessor.

Although the film's palette is starkly bleached and awash with blues and grays, primaries still pop and reds are particularly healthy. Shadow delineation is quite strong, with visibility in the shadows both deep and naturalistic. Black levels occasionally seem overbearing, but only in scenes where darkness is used to good effect. Skintones are intentionally pale, but exhibit excellent texture detail that renders hair, pores, and clothing fibers with ease.


The Audio: Rating the Sound

I really can't say enough good things about the TrueHD 5.1 surround mix (48kHz/16-bit/18 Mbps) that Universal has produced for this HD DVD.
Paired the film's onslaught of screams, gunshots, and revving engines, the result is nothing short of spectacular. The zombies have a wet, throaty throttle to their moans that seems to emanate from every channel, while treble tones are stable and the sub woofer rumbles effectively on more than one occasion. Simply put, the dynamics of this mix will put your surround system through its paces.

Universal Studios Home Video have announced the US HD DVD release of Battlestar Galactica (2004) Season 1 on 4th December 2007 priced at $99.98 SRP. With the 12 colonies of man virtually destroyed in the climax of a hundred-year war with the Cylon Empire, President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos) gather up the few humans left and embark on a journey to find the mythical planet Earth, not realizing that the Cylon robot is no longer a recognizable enemy. Battlestar Galactica is a complete re-imagining of the 1970s series - upping the ante on the action, adventure, and drama that made the original so popular.
