Speaking with Eurogamer, id Software’s Marty Stratton has shared more information about the plans for Doom Eternal on Switch. Stratton indicated that the Switch version will launch alongside other platforms, officially confirmed that Panic Button is working on the port, and the team is targeting 30 frames per second.

Below are the relevant excerpts from the interview:


Will the game launch on Switch at the same time as PC, PS4 and Xbox One?

Marty Stratton: “That’s the plan right now; we’ll see. We’re still a way away from launching but we have made the decision to make Switch a, what we call internally, ‘first class citizen’.”

So you’re developing it internally?

Marty Stratton: No. We’re actually working with Panic Button again, but before, we made the game and then we brought it to Switch, and now we are making the game with Switch in mind. It’s nice to know the platforms we want to hit up front.

Graphically it sounds like you’re doing even more with Eternal but you said it will run at 60 frames per second – on Switch as well?

Marty Stratton: We don’t run at 60 on Switch. Doom 2016 didn’t run at 60 on Switch, it ran at 30, and really it was no sacrifice to the experience.

A release window for Doom Eternal has not yet been set.

Rumor: Diablo III – Eternal Collection leaked for Switch, out this year with Zelda bonuses and new features

A short while ago, Forbes posted an article with an apparent report on Diablo III – Eternal Collection for Switch. It was removed shortly after, though its full contents were captured online.

 

Diablo III – Eternal Collection is said to include Reaper of Souls and Rise of the Necromancer expansions along with all additional content the game has received. There will also be some additional features like cloud saving support and more.

 

 

As far as features go, there will be Nintendo exclusive in-game bonuses. These include a Ganondorf cosmetic armor set, Tri-Force portrait frame, Chicken pet, and Echoes of the Mask cosmetic wings.

 

You’ll also be able to play Diablo III on Switch a few different ways, as outlined by Forbes:

 

* Up to 4 players can play together on a single Switch.
* Up to 4 players can play on 4 different Switch units wirelessly without an internet connection.
* Players can also team up online with the Nintendo Switch Online service (which launches in September.)

 

If Forbes is to be believed, Diablo III – Eternal Collection launches later this year. It’ll cost $59.99.

Ghostlight to port Japanese RPGs to Switch

Ghostlight—which is known for its PC ports of Japanese games like Mary Skelter: Nightmares, Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God, Omega Quintet, Lost Dimension, and more—has signed on as an official Switch developer and has started work on its first Japanese RPG port for Switch, the company announced.

“I hope you’re all looking forward to our Nintendo Switch releases as much as we are, and please stay tuned for more information on which JRPG we’re going to be bringing to Switch in the near future,” Ghostlight teased.

Grandia and Grandia II Coming to Switch in HD Remaster
The original Grandia scored a 9/10 in 1999.

Venerable Japanese RPG series Grandia is coming to Switch this winter. According to a statement by publisher GungHo, Grandia and Grandia II HD Remaster are both heading to Nintendo’s hybrid handheld.

The Grandia series is rooted in the halcyon days of PlayStation and Saturn JRPGs when the franchise first drew a dedicated following.

Originally developed by Game Arts, creators of Thexder, Sylpheed, and Lunar, Grandia is noted for its colorful sprite work and innovative battle system. IGN reviewed the original Grandia back in 1999, scoring the RPG a 9/10.

In addition to the Switch release, Grandia HD Remaster will also be coming to Steam, joining Grandia II – which is already for sale on the service. A demo of Grandia II HD Remaster will be playable at PAX West 2018.

Langrisser I & II full remakes announced for PS4, Switch

Announcement event set for August 29.

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals Langrisser I & II, which includes full remakes of the first two Langrisser titles, for PlayStation 4 and Switch. A release date was not announced.

The games are being fully remade, from graphics to systems, and optimized to be easier to play for newcomers. Character designs are completely new, the scenario is fully voiced, and the UI is being optimized. Battles also have cut-ins, and new elements not included in the original games will be added.

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu is now available, which provides a look at the newly announced Langrisser I & II remake package for PlayStation 4 and Switch.

Here are the details:

“Full Remakes,” from Graphics to Systems

While visual elements like character design and the user interface are of course being redone, the system side is also being optimized to suit the modern era. One point is making it easier to play for tactical RPG novices. New elements not included in the original are also being added.

• The map screen is being beautifully remade, making its topography, units, and so on easier to see.
• Character graphics have been completely remade to be more sophisticated. In battle, there may also be cut-ins that occur.
• Development is 50 percent complete.

Langrisser I Characters

• Ledin – The prince of Baldea, which guards Langrisser. After the Dalsis Empire attacks on the kingdom, Ledin manages to escape, beginning his journey to recover Langrisser.
• Chirs – A traveling cleric pursuing her craft. Ledin saves her when she falls into danger during her travels, and from there she offers her support as an ally.

Langrisser II Characters

• Erwin – A young man on a journey to avenge his father, who was murdered by a demonic being. After he rescues Liana during his travels, he gets wrapped up in her struggle.
• Liana – A girl who lives at the shrine in Salrath as its maiden. For certain reasons, she is being chased by the Imperial army when she is saved by Erwin.

SoulCalibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo shut down some rumors about a possible Nintendo Switch version of the fighter, but he didn’t rule out its possibility after its launch this October.

Here’s what Okubo-san shared at Gamescom 2018 in an interview with DualShockers:

“At the moment there is no development for Switch at all. I understand that the Switch is a very successful hardware, and of course if there is a possibility, then it would be great to do it.

NINTENDO ANNOUNCES DIVERSE LINEUP OF NINDIES COMING TO SWITCH

 

Over the next several months, Nintendo Switch will see its already deep game library grow even more with the release of a diverse lineup of games from independent developers. During a Nindies Showcase video presentation, Nintendo highlighted just a slice of this varied lineup of indie games, which includes indie hits like Into the Breach, Hyper Light Drifter – Special Edition and TowerFall, as well as first-time releases like Zarvot and Bullet Age.

 

 

“The ever-growing community of talented independent developers sees the benefit of releasing creative games on the versatile Nintendo Switch, a system that can be played at home or on the go,” said Steve Singer, Vice President for Nintendo of America’s Publisher & Developer Relations team. “We are happy to support their work and contributions on our platform as we further grow our strong relationship.”

 

Into the Breach: The hit turn-based strategy game is headed to Nintendo Switch. TowerFall: Anyone who is interested in the indie game scene has most likely heard of TowerFall. The extremely popular action game is beloved by many people for its slick fast-paced gameplay and raucous local multiplayer matches. This version of the game includes all the original and add-on content, as well as a new six-player battle mode, four additional Variants and the ability to play as Madeline and Badeline, two characters from indie game Celeste. TowerFall ascends onto Nintendo Switch on Sept. 27, but is also available for pre-purchase starting today.

 

Treasure Stack: Treasure Stack adds a unique platforming mechanic with hookshots and grappling hooks to the traditional falling block puzzle formula. In the game, players control a whimsical cast of heroes as they navigate obstacles to stack treasure chests and solve puzzles. With cross-platform play with Xbox One and PC, players will be able to stack online with even more players. Treasure Stack launches for Nintendo Switch this winter.

 

Zarvot: Charcoal and Mustard are the stars of this charming arcade game about friendship among cubes. In the game’s story mode, players adventure through nine worlds as they attempt to cheer up their best friend. And in Versus Mode, friends can challenge friends to some cutthroat cube action across five game modes. Zarvot launches first on Nintendo Switch in October.

 

Mineko’s Night Market: While Mineko’s Night Market boasts more than 20 hours of story-based gameplay, including four regions to explore, diverse villagers to meet, interesting quests to undertake, and activities like sewing and woodworking to partake in, it also features cats. A lot of them. But even though this is a game starring cats, dog people will love it as well! Mineko’s Night Market opens for business first on consoles on Nintendo Switch in early 2019.

 

Samurai Gunn 2: This sequel to the original lightning-fast Bushido brawler features a new adventure mode. Players can explore a medieval metropolis on the brink of crisis to discover the mystery behind Gunn City’s ghostly threat. Classic Versus Mode returns, with up to four players battling it out in sword-and-gun battles. Samurai Gunn 2 launches on Nintendo Switch in early 2019.

 

Bullet Age: In this co-op action game, players can team up with another player in an intuitive mix of sword-and-gun gameplay. Bullet Age also features challenging platforming, fully upgradable weapons and a charming cartoon art style. Players will feel HD Rumble when they attack and when locating hidden secrets. Bullet Age launches as a console exclusive on Nintendo Switch in November.

 

The World Next Door: Influenced by anime, The World Next Door is a story-driven game that follows a rebellious teenage girl trapped in a parallel world inhabited by magical creatures. Players will meet and develop friendships with an eclectic cast of characters by means of a reputation system, which features branching dialogue based on player choice. The World Next Door becomes a friendly neighbor on Nintendo Switch in early 2019.

 

Levelhead: Players that have a head for level building have found a game for them. In Levelhead, players can design their own game levels using a robust level maker using both touch-screen and traditional controls. Subscribing to other people’s content allows players to create a curated feed of levels they can play. With leaderboards, level sharing and couch co-op, the possibilities are endless! With cross-platform capabilities, content can be shared with players on all platforms that also support Levelhead, including PC, iOS and Android. Players can also take control of GR-18, a delivery robot in training, through a full-fledged single-player campaign. Levelhead launches on Nintendo Switch in November.

 

King of the Hat: This fast-paced, hat-based party game finds players crushing their friends’ hats before they crush their own! All in game, of course. No actual hats were harmed in the making of this game. Matches in the game are short and action-packed – perfect for playing on the couch or on the go. And thanks to simple two-button controls, anyone can pick up and play in local or online multiplayer. King of the Hat launches on Nintendo Switch in early 2019.

 

Untitled Goose Game: With a name like Untitled Goose Game, what’s not to love? In a game that defies all genres, Untitled Goose Game is part stealth, part sandbox and all goose simulator. Play as a goose to take on challenges and cause general goose chaos. Untitled Goose Game launches on Nintendo Switch in early 2019.
