Att de skall fortsätta med reklamkampanjer efter söndag är inte så konstigt tycker jag. Tror inte man skall läsa in så mycket i det uttalandet, vare sig positivt eller negativt.

Toshiba har tidigare sagt att kampanjen kommer att pågå åtminstonde fram till 31maj.
Vilket är samma datum då Warner blir blå.

Både Toshiba och Universal har i intervjuer sagt att det blli "upcomming promotions" från både Toshiba och de filmbolag som fortfarande stöder HD DVD. Vad det innebär lär vi ju märka ganska snart.

En skillnad från tidigare marknadsföring som till den störstas delen inriktat sig på USA , kommer HD DVD PRG nu att genomföra en mer global satsning på en och samma gång för att prångla ut spelare till så många hem som möjligt runt om i världen. Priserna sjunker nu både i USA och Europa och flera personer på olika forum har berättat att priserna sänkts kraftigt av Toshiba även i Australien.
(En representant från Toshiba Sverige, sa till Prylportalen, att de vill bevaka sina marknadsandelar och en stor kampanj var på gång här i Europa .)

Det som mer eller mindre blir avgörande - tror jag - är om Universal och Paramount verkligen kommer att lansera fler titlar och visa att formatet lever eller om de kommer att stå vid sidan och titta på?

Att de ska vara med på "upcomming promotions" är vagt, men som sagt, snart får vi se, när kampanjen drar igång på allvar med annonsering i TV, i tryck samt på webben.

Vilket fall som helst: Det kommer att bli en intressant vår.

Ja därav frågan naturligtvis...

Jag tror att Gudfadern kommer att göra sig väldigt bra på HDDVD, bara man gör sig mödan att leta fram en riktigt bra filmkopia o som sagt göra en genomarbetad restaurering. En sådan utgåva skulle kunna rädda formatet kanske.

edit: Criterion har lyckats bra med ännu äldre filmer än Gudfadern, så det går om man bara vill

A spokesperson close to the company has revealed that no further stock will follow, stating, ‘given the current, multiple uncertainties surrounding the Blu-ray vs HD DVD issue Onkyo has decided against bringing any further DV-HD805s to the UK’.

Microsoft: New retail price on HD DVD drive for XBOX 360

Microsoft lowers the SRP for the HD DVD drive for XBOX 360.

The Xbox 360 HD DVD Player price has dropped from $179.99 to $129.99 (U.S. MSRP.) This new price is effective immediately in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

You can also get 5 free movies with the drive if you buy it before February 28th.

Earlier today Amazon.com had a sale pricing the drive at $79.99. However, they sold out very quickly.

Plextor announced today the new the PX-B920SA 4x Blu-ray DVD ReWriter drive as well as a combo DVD- Rewriter that also plays Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies - the Plextor PX-B300SA.

Plextor PX-B300SA

The new Plextor PX-B300SA is a dual-layer internal DVD drive for PCs and uses a SATA connection. Available from end of February, the competively priced, the drive combines high definition playback with support for all the DVD standards.

In addition, Plextor has included LightScribe technology to enable custom text and designs to be printed/burned onto discs.

The PX-B300SA plays the latest Blu-ray (6x) and HD-DVD (3x) movies, while as a dual-layer DVD drive, it combines multiple formats - DVD R/RW and RAM - into one. Write speeds: 16x DVD+R/-R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 4x DVD+/-R DL, 5x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R and 24x CD-RW.

The retail package includes Intervideo WinDVD8, Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5.5, Ulead Burn.Now 4.5.



Plextor PX-B920SA

Plextor PX-B920SA is a new 4x Blu-ray DVD ReWriter drive using the SATA interface. The internal dual-format drive is capable of writing Blu-ray discs at 4x (BD-R) and also plays HD-DVD ROM discs.

In addition, Plextor has added extra convenience by including LightScribe technology.

The drive can accept both 12cm and 8cm discs (in the horizontal position) and has a 4MB buffer. Write speeds: 4x BD-R, 2xBD-RE, 16x DVD+R/-R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 4x DVD+/-R DL, 5x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R and 24x CD-RW.

Bundled software includes Intervideo WinDVD8, Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5.5, Ulead Burn.Now 4.5.

The Plextor PX-B920SA will be available from end of February 2008.

StudioCanal buys Kinowelt

French movie powerhouse StudioCanal has officially bought up 100% of German independent distributor Kinowelt, the companies said Thursday.

The move makes StudioCanal the largest pan-European film distribution company with operations in the continent's three largest markets: France, Germany and the U.K., after the Gallic company bought Optimum Releasing in 2006.

"We're the only European company to have such a direct presence in the top three markets, "StudioCanal's chairman and CEO Olivier Courson told The Hollywood Reporter. With a stake in these three top territories, StudioCanal will control a market worth 3 billion euros ($4.4 billion) in boxoffice receipts and 7 billion euros ($10.2 billion) in home video sales. StudioCanal will add Kinowelt's 7,000-plus library titles to its already 5,000-strong catalog.

"Our priority is to develop our strategy in each of these three countries and band them together to create a European network," Courson said. StudioCanal is hoping to not only profit from Kinowelt's massive library of DVD rights and distribution benefits, but also aggressively develop the company's international production activities.

StudioCanal plans to invest 200 million euros ($292.2 million) per year in both local and international film production, over 30 million euros ($43.8 million) more than the group's current investment. "We're in a great position to develop international production. We want to be the choice for a European co-producer," Courson said.


He added: "We're going to partner more and more with the U.S. majors and take advantage of remake rights. This is our new strategy, and we're going to amplify it with the acquisition of Kinowelt." StudioCanal wholly funded Wong Kar Wai's "My Blueberry Nights" in 2006 and already has a slew of international co-productions in the works including Johnny To's next film featuring an international cast and a confidential "U.S. studio partner" and a prequel/remake of John Carpenter's "Escape From New York."

Kinowelt has been distributing StudioCanal's films in Germany for years, and the companies plan to extend their strong professional relationship. Michael and Rainer Kolmel will remain in their positions as senior advisers to Kinowelt, Michael for strategy and Rainer for acquisitions.

Both companies refused to comment on the price tag of the merger, rumored to be in the 70 million euro ($103 million) range.

The deal, signed late Wednesday night, will be officially set in motion "as quickly as possible," according to StudioCanal, which hopes to see the acquisition in place by the end of February or beginning of March.

Playing catch-up with a series of price drops on HD DVD players from Toshiba, Microsoft has shaved another $50 off the MSRP for its Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on.

That brings the new suggested retail price on the Xbox 360 HD DVD player in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to $129.99. (As we've previously reported, last August Microsoft dropped the price on the player to $179.)
Today's price drop from Microsoft (which is already reflected on the official Xbox site) comes on the same day that Amazon briefly offered the add-on for a mere $79.99. The web retailer promptly sold out of units at that price, and is currently selling the add-on via one of its partners for $155.67.

Purchases of the Xbox 360 add-on include a free HD DVD copy of of 'King Kong' inside the box, and qualify for an additional five free discs by mail as part of the HD DVD camp's "Perfect Offer" program.

Spelare säljs för 500 kr – inklusive sex filmer
Är det panik eller bara ett smart sätt att sälja spelare? Amazon.com säljer just nu Microsofts externa hd-dvd spelare till Xbox 360 för reapriset 80 dollar, med andra ord cirka 500 kronor. Dessutom får man sex fria hd-dvd filmer på köpet.

Säga vad man vill om hd-kriget i USA, men det finns gott om riktigt bra erbjudanden för konsumenterna. Prisraset bland blu-ray och hd-dvd spelare har den senaste tiden varit stort och tillverkarna fortsätter att subventionera produkter. Hur ska vi annars tolka det faktum att Amazon.com just nu säljer Microsofts hd-dvd spelare, en extern enhet som man kopplar till Xbox 360, för 80 dollar. Översatt i svenska pengar cirka 500 kronor.

Filmer & frakt ingår
Det är en rabatt på cirka 100 dollar (runt 650 kronor). Men det är inte slut med rabatten där inte, dessutom får man sex fria hd-dvd filmer på köpet när man handlar hos Amazon.com och som grädde på moset, fri frakt i USA.

Det här är förstås riktigt anmärkningsvärt och en intressant utveckling i hd-kriget och många har nog väntat på att Microsoft skulle agera i hd-kriget. Fram tills nu har de varit relativt anonyma. Men kanske har Toshiba och Microsoft tillsammans med hd-dvd nu börjat sin marknadsföring och börjar med att dumpa priserna? Omöjligt är det inte!

Nu återstår det att se om den här prisdumpningen som ändå måste ses som rejäl och anmärkningsvärd, kommer att sprida sig även till Europa.
