IFA: Hd och blu-ray i nytt format:
LG släpper ny kombospelare i höst

LG Electronics Launches Second-Generation Dual-Format High-Definition Disc Player

New Super Blu™ Player Offers New Features and Functionality, Continues
to Provide Consumers Choice Based on Content, not Format

DENVER, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Electronics, the first company to
introduce a dual-format high-definition disc player, today unveiled its
second-generation LG Super Blu™ Player (model BH200). Sporting both
formats' logos, LG's new high-def player is capable of Blu-ray disc and HD
DVD
playback with advanced BD-Java and HDi interactivity, enabling
consumers to choose from the widest variety of high-def content regardless
of disc format.
On display for the first time at the Custom Electronic Design and
Installation Association (CEDIA) EXPO 2007 (booth #720), LG's Super Blu
Player will be available to U.S. consumers and custom installers in
mid-October at a suggested retail price of $999.
The BH200 further strengthens LG's position as an innovator. Seven
months ago, LG was the first to launch a dual-format high-def disc player,
the award-winning BH100. That technological breakthrough has been widely
recognized as a groundbreaking product with industry accolades including
CNN's Best of CES, CNET's CES 2007 Best in Show and Home Video categories
and Popular Mechanics' CES Editor's Choice Award.
"LG introduced the world's first high-definition dual-format player to
focus on consumer needs and to end the confusion caused by the current
format war," said Allan Jason, vice president of consumer electronics
marketing at LG Electronics USA, Inc. "The launch of BH200 reinforces our
leadership position and offers consumers and custom installers a
best-in-class next-generation high-definition media player."
Mark Horak, executive vice president for Warner Home Video, the only
major studio supporting both the HD DVD and Blu-ray disc formats, said,
"The availability of movie titles on competing high-def disc formats is a
challenge for both retailers and consumers. The introduction of the
second-generation LG Super Blu Player addresses this challenge by fully
enabling both high-def formats on one convenient player, encouraging the
adoption of next-generation disc technology and growing the market."
One Player, Latest Technology
The Super Blu Player offers increased HDTV entertainment choices,
because it can play 50 to 60 percent more high-def movie titles than either
single-format player. With full networked interactivity available from
selected HD DVDs, and the capability to handle networked "BD-Live"
interactivity in forthcoming Blu-ray discs, it is the latest available
technology that plays both disc formats.
Viewers can enjoy advanced options such as "Picture-in-Picture"
available from many Blu-ray discs as well as HDi web-connected
interactivity available from many HD DVDs. Access to these features enables
viewing of storyboards, production videos and director's commentary as the
movie is playing, as well as accessing up-to-date information. The Super
Blu Player also accepts additional entertainment content via a network
connection, making for an unmatched entertainment experience.
In addition to supporting the latest high-def disc technologies, the
Super Blu Player is the ideal match for movie enthusiasts and even music
enthusiasts as it supports audio CDs and the ability to up-scale standard
DVDs to 1080p resolution.
"With its improved features and functionality, the BH200 is perfect for
the custom installer in search of the next-generation player as it
eliminates the need for a second player and the additional cables it
requires," said Tim Alessi, director of consumer electronics marketing at
LG Electronics USA, Inc. "With full support for features available on both
Blu-ray discs and HD DVDs, it serves as the flagship of the LG home video
product line and complements the company's expanded line-up of 'Full HD'
1080p flat-panel HDTVs."
The Ultimate Movie Viewing Experience
The LG Super Blu Player, which can output up to 1080p video resolution
at 24-, 30- and 60-frames-per-second, supports various A/V formats,
including MPEG-2, VC-1, H.264 video, MPEG1/2 audio, Dolby Digital, Dolby
Digital+, DTS and DTS-HD audio. The unit also includes multiple
inputs/outputs such as HDMI 1.3 out, component/composite video outputs,
digital optical and analog audio outputs as well as a LAN Ethernet port for
network interactivity.
LG Super Blu Player customers will enjoy superior quality video output
with HDMI 1.3 Deep Color output to improve color tones and achieve finer
color gradations to deliver the smoothest and most brilliant video output
available. The player also features QDEO™ advanced video processing for
superior up-scaling accuracy up to 1080p, improved noise reduction and
consistent color precision.
The new Super Blu Player incorporates LG's SimpLink™ connectivity
solution, enabling easier control of other LG SimpLink compatible
equipment. The units are connected with an HDMI cable and use the HDMI-CEC
communication standard. This allows the user to control other components
on-screen or directly from each component. The BH200 also is equipped with
a USB Media Host for easy access to digital music and photo libraries.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

LG BH200 Owner Review @ AVS

OK, here goes a quick review.

My system is a 61" DLP LED Samsung set w/ Onkyo 605 receiver. Connection is HDMI to the Onkyo and then HDMI to my Sammy.

Please note that I have never owned a standalone HD format player before. I do have an HTPC with HDMI out to my set and have 'previewed' some HDDVD and BR rips previously.

*HDDVD and Blu-Ray PQ are excellent.

*The player is slow to start up a new disc, compared to the PC playing a disc ripped to the HD. This is to be expected of course. BR seems to start slightly faster. This may be because it is earlier in the "what kind of disc is this?" sequence that the player is running. It takes forever to start a standard def DVD as well, so there you go.

*The player will re-compress the new formats to DTS on the fly. Never heard of this before. Guess since it does not have 5.1 analog outs this is a compromise. It will send the DTS out the digital output or HDMI. Since my HDMI is going to a new receiver that supports the new codecs and I pass everything to it directly I have no idea how good the re-compression is.

*All the audio bitstreams passed to my REC were detected and decoded. (PCM51., DD+, etc) Dolby TrueHD was NOT passed to my REC as expected. LG has already said this will take a firmware update.

*The player (at this point) does not have any option to output 24p. May not be the case. See Below.

*The network portion of the player does not seem to have a "check for new firmware" type option. It has basic net settings and login and password fields. I don't have the book so I have no idea what this is for.

*The standard DVD output is GODAWFUL. I don't plan to use this as a DVD player so I don't care, but be forewarned. Yes, It's that bad.

*There is no "zoom" feature. It handles all the aspect ratio stuff automagically and it does not appear to be configurable other than setting the output AR of the display. If it is standard def, NON-Anamorphic, widescreen material, ie. Extras, it is window boxed with bars on all sides I am afraid. No way around that on this player it seems. The remote has a "resolution" button that is for use by the TV control portion of the universal remote. It does not seem to work on the player at all.

*The remote is **** and slow to respond even in the native menu of the player.

*The menus resemble those on the BH100. (From the screens I've seen in this forum.)

*Navigating the HD disc menus is choppy and slow. Again, I am used to the PC and PowerDVD but it seems very clunky. It works, but just feels like a gui running on a machine who's processor is at 100%. HDDVD seems a little worse that BR in this respect but they are both slow.

NOTE: I only have about 9 discs of mixed formats.

V for Vendetta HD, Black Snake Moan BR, Matrix trilogy HD, Hot Fuzz HD, The Thing HD, Casino Royale BR, The Departed BR.

Questions?

PS: How did I get it and where? See avsforum.com

Second-Generation 'Super Blu' High-Definition Disc Player Available From LG Electronics Retail Partners

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Electronics'
second-generation LG Super Blu™ Player (model BH200) is now available
nationally at leading consumer electronics dealers. This advanced
multi-format disc player (suggested retail price $999) lets consumers
choose from the widest variety of high-def video content as it is the only
player capable of playing both Blu-ray and HD DVD discs.

"LG introduced the BH200 to focus on consumer needs by ending the
confusion caused by the current format war," said Allan Jason, vice
president of consumer electronics marketing at LG Electronics USA, Inc.
"This second generation, dual-format player allows consumers to enjoy their
favorite movies, features and extras, regardless of format, on the
best-in-class high-definition media player."

One Player, Latest Technology

The Super Blu Player offers consumers increased HDTV entertainment
choices because it provides access to between 50 and 70 percent more
high-def movie titles than any single-format player.

The multi-format combination ensures users of the BH200 the latest
technology available from both high-def disc formats. The LG Super Blu
Player features the "BD Standard Profile," and is also ready for "BD
Profile 1.1" when Blu-ray discs with the new profile become available in
2008. When such Blu-ray discs begin to be distributed, viewers will be able
to enjoy advanced options, such as "Picture-in-Picture", for an expanded
viewing experience. In addition, the Super Blu Player provides access to
web-connected interactivity available from a number of current HD DVDs.
Access to these features enables viewing of storyboards, production videos
and director's commentary, as well as up-do-date and real-time information,
while the movie is playing.

In addition to supporting the latest high-def disc technologies, the
Super Blu Player is the ideal match for movie enthusiasts and even music
enthusiasts as it supports audio CDs and has the ability to up-scale
standard DVDs to Full HD 1080p resolution bringing new life to existing DVD
movie libraries.

"The BH200's enhanced features and functionality eliminate the need for
a second or third player and the additional cables and remotes that those
units would require," said Tim Alessi, director of consumer electronics
marketing at LG Electronics USA, Inc. "Its full support for features
available on both Blu-ray discs and HD DVDs makes the Super Blu the
flagship of the LG home video product line and complements the company's
expanded line-up of 'Full HD' 1080p flat-panel HDTVs."

The Ultimate Movie Viewing Experience

The LG Super Blu Player can output video resolution up to 1080p via the
HDMI connection, delivering an outstanding image quality that is ideally
suited to LG's line of 1080p plasma and LCD TVs. The unit includes multiple
inputs/outputs such as HDMI 1.3 with Deep Color, component/composite video
outputs, digital optical and analog audio outputs as well as a LAN Ethernet
port for network interactivity. The player's USB Media Host port on the
front panel provides access to digital music and photo slideshows, making
it a powerful and versatile media center for high-def home theaters.

The LG Super Blu Player features Qdeo™ advanced video processing
from Marvell for superior up-scaling accuracy, improved noise reduction and
consistent color precision. Featuring advanced per-pixel motion-adaptive 3D
de-interlacing for HD and SD video, as well as per-pixel noise and
compression artifact reduction, Qdeo removes "jaggies," feathering, video
noise, and compression artifacts for quiet, natural images without
distraction. The Super Blu player's Qdeo technology also delivers details
in darker scenes with Adaptive Contrast Enhancement (ACE) and renders vivid
colors through Intelligent Color Remapping (ICR), providing a rich video
experience from Blu-ray discs, HD DVDs and standard DVDs.

The new Super Blu Player also incorporates LG's SimpLink™
connectivity solution, which enables easier control of other LG
SimpLink-compatible equipment. SimpLink units are connected with an HDMI
cable and use the HDMI-CEC communication standard, which allows the user to
control other components on-screen or directly from each component.
