Universal possibily hinting at the release of more Blu-ray Disc titles for 2008 in their new insert (brochure)

Universal is including a brochure of sorts in their upcoming Blu-ray Disc releases later this month that features some cover art for titles that have yet to be announced. I guess this is pretty much a hint we can expect these titles by year end, most likely. The titles you can see in this are as follows (that haven’t already been announced):

Taxi Driver and Dr. Strangelove Coming to Blu-ray

In an early announcement to retailers, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring Stanley Kubrick classic 'Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb' to Blu-ray on December 9th. Also revealed, the studio plans to bring the Robert De Niro classic 'Taxi Driver' on February 3rd, 2009.

Additionally, Sony will bring the twisted film 'MirrorMask' to Blu-ray on December 9th.

As these are all unofficial announcements no additional information is known at this time.

Warner is bringing the 2007 original animated DC film “Superman: Doomsday” to Blu-ray in November

With Comic-Con last week many announcements have come regarding comic / superhero-related upcoming releases on Blu-ray Disc and you can add DC Comics‘ 2007 original animated film “Superman: Doomsday” apparently to that list with a scheduled release date of November 25th to be obviously through parent company Warner. Planet of the Apes Collection (US BD) in November

Fox Home Entertainment have announced the US Region A Blu-ray Disc release of Planet Of The Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection on 4th November 2008. Releases in other territories are also confirmed for this Autumn.

The set includes all five Planet of the Apes films on Blu-ray: Beneath The Planet of the Apes, Escape from The Planet of the Apes, Conquest of The Planet of the Apes, Battle for The Planet of the Apes, and the 1968 original Planet of the Apes.

The collection also boasts exclusive new High-Def content. As a special treat for Apes fans, the collection includes an unrated version of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Previously unreleased in the United States, this version includes eight minutes of unrated footage. Other new special content includes an “Evolution of the Apes” documentary chronicling the evolution of the Apes universe from novel to the big screen, an “Impact of the Apes” featurette exploring the cultural impact of the franchise and a never-before-seen public service announcement from ANSA about the seminal flight of the “Project Liberty” crew. Each Planet of the Apes sequel included in the “beautifully packaged” collection will contain brand new High-Def making-of featurettes. The set carries an SRP of $159.98.

Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises on Blu-ray in October

Online retailer HDAddicts.com has alerted us the Viggo Mortensen Russian mob drama Eastern Promises is scheduled for a Blu-ray Disc release on October 14.

Eastern Promises was originally released on HD DVD and presented in widescreen 1.85:1 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby Digital lossy audio. The move to Blu-ray should result in a jump to 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

Supplemental features found on the HD DVD will likely also appear intact on Blu-ray. Those include a pair of featurettes: Secrets and Stories, and Marked for Life.

Eastern Promises on Blu-ray will carry an SRP of $29.98. Check back regularly for high resolution cover art, finalized disc specs and pre-order information, all of which we expect on or shortly after Universal officially makes an announcement.

Jag köpte mig ett Region B-exemplar från www.play.com (UK)

Ang Lee's The Hulk Smashing onto Blu-ray

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced Ang Lee's 2003 take on The Hulk is coming to Blu-ray Disc on September 16 after already being available on HD DVD.

The release date is intriguing as early retailer information pointed towards a late November bow for Louis Leterrier's 2008 The Incredible Hulk. Typically studios align a new theatrical title and a similar catalog title for release on the same date so it will be interesting to see where The Incredible Hulk ultimate lands.

Universal is presenting The Hulk in widescreen 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio on a single-layered BD-25 disc.

Supplemental features are identical to what was previously offered on HD DVD complete with U-Control. The full list recapped below.

The Stendhal Syndrome on Blu-ray has a Date, Specs, Cover Art

Blue Underground has released full disc specs and high resolution cover art for Dario Argento's The Stendhal Syndrome starring Asia Argento, the second of six Blu-ray titles expected from the indie studio this year (the first being The Final Countdown).

The Stendhal Syndrome will be presented in widescreen 1.66:1 1080p video and offer 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio options.

Extras are a little vague and assumed to be comprised of interviews with the film's major players. The full list is as follows.

Universal är ju på hugget nu med Blu-ray. Deras nyaste filmer och även äldre filmer släpps ju nu på Blu-ray i USA. När kan man räkna med svensktextade versioner av deras filmer. Har inte hört något om detta.

DreamWorks Q2 Down, Kung Fu Panda Coming to Blu-ray

DreamWorks Animation SKG will release its summer hit Kung-Fu Panda on Blu-ray Disc during the fourth quarter, CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said July 29 while reporting the company’s second quarter 2008 earnings

Katzenberg added, “We will be releasing Kung Fu Panda on Blu-ray in the fourth quarter. We are making our product available and will aggressively promote and market our product on the Blu-ray format.”

Kung Fu Panda Kicks It's Way To Blu-ray This November
Paramount/Dreamworks has scheduled Kung Fu Panda for a November 18th release date on Blu-ray and DVD. Too early for specs and details, but we will keep you updated!

Interview with a Vampire; Poltergeist Announced

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring 'Interview with a Vampire' to Blu-ray on October 7th. A week later, on October 14th, they will bring 'Poltergeist' to Blu-ray as a digibook. Both titles will be presented in 1080p VC-1 video . It is still unconfirmed in these releases will use Dolby TrueHD or Dolby Digital for the soundtracks.

No extras have been announced for 'Interview with a Vampire', but extras for 'Poltergeist' will include documentary "They Are Here: The Real World of Poltergeist Revealed".

No additional information was releases about either title at this time.
