The TX-NR807 and TX-SR707 are indisputably the best specified AV receivers that have ever been available at their price points and Onkyo believes they will comfortably exceed consumer expectations when it comes to performance.

Having already beaten its competitors to the punch by launching the world’s first Dolby Pro Logic IIz-equipped models earlier this year (the TX-SR607 and TX-SR577), Onkyo is pleased to announce that it has added Audyssey DSX to the extensive list of decoding options available on these new receivers.
Audyssey DSX allows owners the choice of incorporating a pair of 'front wide’ instead of the usual surround back speakers, placed at around 60 degrees off-centre. When the mode is engaged it enhances the surround-sound experience by adding extra presence and depth to the soundstage. Alternatively, Audyssey DSX can also allow additional front speakers to deliver non-directional 'front height' information (effects such as rain etc), in a similar way to DPL IIz.
Setting up one's speakers can either be done manually or, for ease of installation, via Audyssey's well-established MultEQ microphone-based automatic speaker calibration system. Other convenience aids from Audyssey include Dynamic Volume (designed to solve the problem of variations in level when switching from channel to channel) and Dynamic EQ (an integral part of Dynamic Volume which ensures a consistent bass response, tonal balance and surround impression, regardless of volume level).
No matter how many speakers you elect to use, however, you have the cast-iron assurance that these new receivers meet THX's stringent Select 2 Plus home cinema performance specifications (for rooms up to 56m3). When you've earnt that badge power, sonic 'grip' and authority come as standard.
As does innovation. The TX-SR807, for instance, comes equipped with a DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) 1.5 compatible Network Capability that allows it to both replay streaming audio files and access Internet Radio services such as LastFM/vTuner (services subject to availability). The other big bonus is that the TX-NR807's firmware can be conveniently updated (when necessary) over the Internet, saving both time and effort.
Portable audio fans will appreciate the fact that iPod/iPhone connectivity is fully supported as the receivers sport Onkyo's proprietary U.Port (Universal Port). This new standard permits a convenient one-cable connection (no separate power connection required) to add-on modules such as the recently introduced optional UP-A1 dock.
As well as transmitting high quality audio from your iPod/iPhone to your speakers the UP-A1 also permits the streaming of HD video from the device to your screen, all routed via the TX-NR807/TX-SR707 and delivered via HDMI at 1080p video resolution. And there's no need to squint at the iPod/iPhone's screen when selecting content either... the UP-A1 has a built-in OSD facility that allows you to stay seated and navigate/select content on your device via your TV screen (when partnered with these new receivers).
Owners of older Onkyo docks that use the company's RI (Remote Interactive) protocol will still be able to use them (as well as more recent models such as the DS-A3) with these new receivers as they fully support the RI system.
Incidentally, in a matter of weeks Onkyo will also be launching the U.Port-compatible UP-DT1 DAB+ digital radio tuner, a small module that can be used on its own or, alternatively, 'daisy-chained' alongside the UP-A1 if owners want access to iPod/iphone and digital radio sources at the same time.
Back to the receivers. Naturally, both excel with the high resolution Dolby True HD/DTS-HD soundtracks found on Blu-ray discs. And with a generous complement of 6 HDMI inputs (including one mounted on the front panel for camcorders on the TX-SR707) and six digital inputs (three coaxial/three optical) there's absolutely no shortage of connectivity on offer. Blu-ray players, Sky HD STBs, PC, Apple Mac... these advanced receivers will talk to all of them.
Owners who want to hook up a games console to one of those inputs will find some extra sonic treats in store for them. Both receivers feature four new Games DSP Modes, allowing reproduction to be specifically tailored when you’re playing Sports, Action, RPG (Role Playing Game) or Rock-type games (that’s ‘Rock’ as in Guitar Hero!).
It takes some heavyweight processing to achieve effects such as those so there's plenty of leading edge technology employed 'under the hood'. To reduce jitter (undesirable noise that can affect digital signals) to the lowest possible levels Onkyo has specified the latest eight-channel Burr-Brown PCM1690 192kHz/24-bit DAC (digital to analogue converter), in conjunction with powerful Texas Instruments 'Aureus' DA830/DA788 DSP chips.
There's more. Want a receiver that will allow you to hear music in more than one room? You're in luck... the TX-SR707 has a Powered Zone 2 capability while the TX-SR807 goes one better by allowing you to power stereo speakers in Zones 2 and 3. That ability, when used in in conjunction with, IR (infrared input), 12v trigger capability and RS-232 control, makes these receivers brilliantly suited to forming the heart of an entry-level multi-room audio system.
Features, facilities and class-leading performance mean nothing if they're not backed up with reliability. With top quality construction (including a solid double aluminium layer fascia) and high-quality audiophile-grade components used throughout Onkyo is confident that these new receivers will provide many years of enjoyment..
How confident? Confident enough to offer a 3-year warranty as standard...
